"Can spring break come any slower?" My step sister Lexi asks me.

I close my locker and just stare at her. She hasn't shut up about spring break since last month. Ever since she heard about the lake house trip our parents planned, it's the only thing that's been on her mind.

"It's Friday, and we leave tomorrow," I say trying to lowkey shut her up. "That's only one day."

"One day of hell." She means on the lockers and slides down. "How will I ever survive?"

Lex can be quite the drama queen.. I learned that the hard way. Our parents have been married for a year, and she is great.. just dramatic.

I slide down next to her. "You poor thing." I'm pretty sarcastic, and she luckily understands my bitchy sarcastic humor.

"Hey losers," says Peter as he walks up. "Um let me guess.. Lexi is being a drama queen?"

"Oh shut up Peter," Lexi says back.

"Make me," he says back to her.

She stands up and they act all tough to each other. Well, Peter does. He thinks that Lexi is playing around, but she's really not. She can't stand him, which sucks.. but it's hilarious to watch. I stand up and get in the middle of them.

"Okay you two, break it up."

"Oh come on Q, I'd easily kick his ass," says Lexi.

"Funny joke Lexi," says Peter cockily. "Anyways, do you two need a ride home?"

I look at Lexi to see her on her phone. "Nah I'm good, I'm hanging out with my cheer team before break." Then she just walks away, with her eyes still on her phone.

"I'd love a ride," I say looking back at Peter.

"Anything for you Quinnie," he says winking. I hate and love when he calls me that. He's the only one that does, so it's just a special thing between us.

"You know I hate that name," I say rolling my eyes.

"Nah, I'm pretty sure you love it."

"Nah, I'm pretty sure I don't."

"Come on, you know you love me."

He's not wrong. I've been crushing on Peter since ninth grade, and he knows it too. I told him how I felt two months ago, only to get friend zoned. I will admit, it hurt like a bullet, but he doesn't need to know that. I acted like it was okay so it wouldn't ruin our friendship. We've been friends for years, and I don't want to lose him.

Peter has been my best friend since second grade. The class was doing arts and crafts and I didn't want to partake in the activity, so I sat in the back of the class. After about 10 minutes of sitting alone, Peter sat with me. We've been best friends ever since.

"Don't get cocky with me," I say in a fake tough attitude.

"I do what I want," he says mocking my tone.

We can do this forever, and it would never get old. But, I really need to go home and pack.

"Just take me home."

"All right, whatever you say."

We start walking to his car and I catch him staring at me. But, it's nothing, it's just a simple friendly gaze.

I think..

Once we get to his car, I open up the door and his car is a complete mess.

"Yeah, um.. just throw everything in the back," he says like it's no big deal.

"Pete, this is disgusting," I say while buckling my seatbelt. "I mean, come on. How hard is it to stay clean?"

"I'm sure your car is- oh wait, you don't drive," he says while laughing at his own stupid joke. Typical Peter, always thinking he's so funny.

"Yeah, definitely haven't heard that joke before."

He pulls out of the school parking lot, and gets onto the freeway. Once we really start driving he looks at me to make sure that I'm comfortable. Driving in a car with people makes me anxious, but when I'm with him, I know that I'm safe.

"Is this speed fine, Quinnie?"

I smile at how much he cares. "It's perfect."
