WHEN HAZEL LEROUX received the opportunity to do a news report on the crime and poverty rates in the city of Sokovia, she thought life couldn't get better. She had the job of her dreams, the husband of her dreams, and two beautiful little girls. Everything was perfect. But nothing gold can stay. In the wrong place at the wrong time, Hazel's family was torn to pieces in a matter of minutes. Her husband and her youngest daughter thrown into their early graves thanks to the Avengers, Hazel was in ruin. There was only one place left for her to run to: home.
ONE YEAR LATER, in a sketchy New York City apartment, Hazel is still struggling to come to terms with the death of her husband and her daughter. She had lost two of the most important people in her life at the same time, and the ruthless murderers who were responsible never paid the price. When the Avengers are split across the middle and either arrested, forced into hiding, or relegated to living like everyone else, Hazel can't help but feel ecstatic knowing that the people who destroyed her life are finally getting their comeuppance. But she is still only human, and when a disheveled, unkempt Steve Rogers moves into the apartment down the hall, she can't bring herself to turn him in. He's different than she imagined he'd be, charming, personable, not at all like a murderer. Hazel LeRoux will never forgive the Avengers for what they did to her family, but maybe there's a line between the Avengers and the people who are the Avengers. Maybe Captain America and Steve Rogers are two different people. Maybe he's the only person left who can really understand her. Or maybe not.
