Waking up with a cold, dead feeling in your skin is something people go through everyday. In this aspect, Mariana Gold, woke up with that feeling everyday. Her family, was, in some terms, cursed, but that wasn't actually true. They were normal. Just not the same. Not the same as the other families that live around them. They were happy, more wealthy, only-childs. No, Mariana Gold's family was not like that. She has two brothers, an older and a younger, she was not as wealthy as most, most of all, they were not happy.

Brrang! Brrang! Brrang! Mariana's alarm went, she had snoozed it like ten times already. She definitely did not want to get up for school today. She was a junior at Mellonburg High School. Her brother, Jordan had just recently tried to wake her up. But he left as soon as he tried, because he had 'football practice'. Her brother, in some kind of miracle, was the only carefree one in this family. He was a senior and he also had everything. Perfect grades, perfect face, teeth and body. The perfect girlfriend, plays the perfect sport. He's the school's golden boy.

Mariana slowly got up from her bed as she groaned. Carefully, she made her way through a pathway she had created in her mountain of clothes on the floor, trying not to knock anything over, she saw a grey hoodie and lifted it to her face and sniffed it. "Smells clean, I'll wear it." She mumbled to herself. She grabbed a pair of jeans and her old converse. Mariana had so much clothes, she didn't know if she had anything good under there. Maybe something from the freshman year. She made her way the the shared family bathroom in there 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. Taking a look inside, it contained hair-gel, props to her brothers, 5 different toothbrushes even though only three people used this bathroom. She sighed at the dried up toothpaste in the sink.

She brushed her teeth, washed her face, pulled her hair back into a bun, and put on her glasses.  She didn't need to do her make-up, no one noticed her anyways. After slipping on her clothes, she made her way to the kitchen grabbing a toast that was left in the toaster from her younger brother. It was currently 6:24AM and she had to be at school at 7. She doesn't know why her brother tries to wake her up early. She ate the toast and grabbed her phone and book bag. Making her way out the door she plugged her headphones in. She walked to school.

That was her daily routine since she started school. Their mom had always pushed them to go to school. The one thing she did not do. She wants us to be better than her. She works as a cleaning lady for some stubborn rich people. Mariana didn't know what she was going to be, but Jordan wants to be in the NFL and her freshman brother is leaning towards scientist which made her laugh. So many people want to be a doctor, or a mid-wife, or even go to the Army after senior year.

When Mariana walked into the school she was not greeted, she met eyes with her brother who was hanging with his popular friends, and his girlfriend. He smiled and waved and Mariana continued walking. "Hey Jordan ain't that your brother?" Kevin asked. He was a dumb-ass that thought whatever he said was funny. "Nah man, that's ma lil' sis" He answered. Mariana scoffed. "She looks male." Alex said. Jordan kept a smile and nodded.

Mariana went inside the school and made her way to the only class that made her feel like she could live with no stress. There were 4 to 5 kids in that class. Art. She grabbed her smock, and her unfinished artwork and  began to paint.

Mariana was pretty level-headed. Even if her room was a pigsty and she had not care for how she looked. She had excellent grades. He brother and her competed every year for the top spot, but we all know who it came down to in the long run. As she painted she captured her essence and placed it into the canvas. All her worries, doubts, and stresses came onto the work. Most of her art themes were dark, usually black and white, this one was no different, but a true mind could see each one held her darkest secrets, her deepest desires, and her tragic life story.
