All my friends are close with Death. he takes them without saying why. He took my first friend when I was at the ripe age of eleven. The rope in Death's hands looked like that of an executioner's whip. He gently laid it around a slender neck as if it was a scarf. Ever so silent Death stood behind him. His eyes glowed with glee as he gave a little shove. The sound of his neck snapping echoed into the empty silence.

Death again came looking for one of my friends two years later. Death laid his hands on hers as if he was showing him how to do it. The metal cool and firm in her grip, she took a shuddering breath and held the gun to her temple and Death with a smile on his face pulled the trigger. Her body fell with a thump and red roses started to bloom around her broken crown.

Knock-knock. The sound of Death knocking on my next door neighbour's door resounded through the whole neighbourhood. She opened the door with a grin and welcomed him in. Ever so gently like a lover he grazed his sharp teeth over her blemished wrist. Crimson started bubbling up. Tenderly Death laid her limp body in a pool of red.

Death found it funny how I had cried for all my friends that never said goodbye because he was quietly waiting in a corner all these years for me to do the same- disappear without saying anything.

I walked with lead in my legs towards the top of the world. Death danced around me. The sun was slowly awakening, opening its golden eyes. At the top the music began to slow along with Death's dance. One last beautiful sight before my undoing. The light would see my darkness fall. The music stopped and Death in his final dance position gave me my final push to fly.
