It had only been a few weeks since Christopher dumped me. Honestly, I was still devastated. It had been a bad week to begin with, and then a broken heart on top of that. I honestly expected sophomore year to be a total drag, considering my boyfriend of two years broke up with me, and my best friend of 7 years practically dumped me too. I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it through the year if it wasn't for my three totally beautiful, amazing, best friends...and him.
I woke up to the alarming, shrill, scream, of my alarm clock. I slapped it once to shut it up, but it started dinging again 5 minutes later. I reluctantly pulled myself out of bed and slipped my feet in my slippers. I looked in the mirror above my dresser, tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, and sighed.
"Highschool here I come, again." I opened all my drawers, pulling things out and chunking them across the room. I repeated this process over again until I found a light blue sweater and some skinny jeans. I threw my hair into a messy low ponytail and put on some white sneakers. I glanced at the mirror one more time.
"Hot." I said once quickly. I turned to leave my room when I slipped on an item of clothing, I threw out of my drawer and fell on my butt. I sat there a moment thinking about how bad of an omen it is to fall on your first day of school, then pushed myself up and left the room. I walked into the living room and saw my sister, Lauren. She's starting freshman year today.
"Oh, hey Leah." She said when she saw me. I looked her up and down. She was wearing a long green t-shirt and baggy grey sweat pants.
"Is that what you're wearing on your first day of high school?" I asked. She looked at herself.
"Yep, not making a big deal out of it."
"That's a good perspective." I said smiling, throwing my arm around her shoulders.
"Now go get in the car," I started, "We're going to be late." She ran to the car. I came behind her and got into the driver's seat. I put the car in reverse and started out the driveway, looking out the rearview mirror. I whipped around quickly and started towards the school and glanced over to see her examining her class schedule.
"You okay Laurie?" I asked.
"What? Oh, no, I'm fine." She responded rather quickly. I nodded at the piece of paper in her hand.
"Who's your homeroom?" I asked her.
"Um... Mrs. Mendel?" She said as if it were a question.
"Oh, I heard she's cool. She's in the 1st hallway. I'll show you too her room." I said smiling.
"Thanks Lee." She said smiling.
"No problem. Anything for, my little sister. Because, even though you're growing like crazy, you'll always be my little sister." I grabbed her shoulder with one arm and hugged her.
"Okay. Okay." She said pushing me off. "Eyes on the road please?"
I laughed and focused on the road. We arrived at school about 15 minutes later. I stopped in front of the school.
¨Get out. ¨ I said as soon as I pulled up. Lauren hesitated.
¨Get out Laurie, I'll meet you in there, in 3 minutes. I just have to park and get my stuff. ¨ She opened the door still looking nervous. I put a hand on her shoulder.
¨It's going to be fine. You know why? Because your super cool, super awesome, super-hot big sister will be in there with you. ¨ I said smiling.
¨Don't you have to find stupid, retard, and idiot before you go in? ¨ She asked.
