How can I write fanfic better?

1. Know your specific genre

Genre, if you don't know, is very important to the way you write. (Horror, romance, sci-fi, mystery) unless your story is a hybrid and has many different elements, go with that. But if you're starting out it's best to stick to one genre that you are most comfortable with. Making it evident to not only yourself but to your readers about what kind of books you usually write, it can truly help you tackle one genre. This can help you really understand one type before you might want to tackle another! Knowing the genre of your books is very important.

2. Connect

One thing that I love most about books that I read from my favorite authors is that most of the time they connect events and characters to real life scenarios or issues. This is how you can truly write better fan fiction. Yes, fiction doesn't have to necessarily be real and connect with the real world. But most of the time, the main feature in a book that readers like is the realism. Of course if you're writing a fantasy, maybe it won't apply.. or it can! If you connect with the world around you and apply that to your stories, it can make them a whole lot more enjoyable for everyone.

3. Apply more to what you make, be connected. Be inspired!

This connects to the last point, when you apply much more to what you make it not only helps you drive your story along but it pulls your readers in! What I mean by apply is, literally anything. Apply a certain personality to your character, maybe you like the personality your friend has.. apply that to your character. This can connect to your readers, maybe they have a friend with the same personality or know someone. This can help them truly like your character. Anything can inspire you!

I know these tips are very short but I keep them short to get to the point and also because the same tips I've mentioned in past chapters can help also.
