Chapter 2 (The Attack)

After what seemed like decades, the monster had finally calmed down, and now was hopefully sleeping restlessly inside Jacob. Would Jacob ever get rid off this bewitching soul? Would it torture him till death arrives on the doorstep? The time passed like this as Jacob tried to figure out a reasonable answer to these questions. But, now he didn't care about them any longer. Gone were the days, where Jacob wasted his day and night in lingering loneliness. Now, that he had found his soul mate, he wasn't ready to loose her, yet. Jacob knew that one day, he would have to leave Delilah, and it was the best solution for her. He wanted her alive. He wanted her to grow old and live her life as a normal person. Yes, he wanted to be part of her future, but was it possible, especially if one day he would be the death of her? At a snail's pace, his legs carried him towards the landing, his knees trembling in fear. Fear of loosing her. He wanted to see if she was hurt. As he stumbled his way down the steady stairs, a low whimper escaped through his lips.

"Jake?" she mumbled suddenly appearing at his foot.

His eyes involuntarily stared at her face. The dark circles under her eyes were purple in pain and tears. Her usual rosy healthy cheeks were now heavily bruised with blue dark marks around her jaw. He had hurt her, again.

For a minute, he seemed to be completely unaware of the sharp knife in his tightening fist. His tortured eyes shut themselves, and the scarlet blood trickled down his hands splashing into the while carpet.

She gasped in horror. "Jake," Delilah screamed and snatched his hands open. "What is wrong with you?" She was shaking in terror as the tears seemed to flow unstoppably.

Finally, she was acting more human. He had wanted to see those tears and the fear, from deep down he had to make sure that she wasn't lost in another world. Suddenly, he grabbed her with his free hand and buried his head in her hair. He felt her hesitate with his action.

"Don't worry, it's all your Jake now!" he whispered and immediately her loose hands found the back of his head, tousling his hair.

"I'm sorry."

She inhaled his magical scent and captured his face in between her two hands. "Its fine Jake, don't apologize, nobody's perfect."

"You are Delilah. To me you're perfect in every way. That's why; I can't be with you Dee. You don't deserve a monster like me. Before I do anything that'd make me live my future life in regret and pain, I can't be with you. I want to, but I can't. Delilah, I don't know when I can be just me with you. You're never safe with me," he whispered.

"Don't, please Jacob, don't do this to me. Can't you see Jake? I'm not perfect, far from it. You may be a monster, but deeply you're only mine, it'll stay that way forever. Either way Jake, if you leave me, I'll die in pain, so you'll have to live with that regret and tenderness. Why can't you understand, that there will be no Delilah without her Jacob?" she cried shaking him vigorously.

"I don't want you falling for me Delilah, I'm dangerous," he muttered unable to meet her eyes. He knew that she would never fall for this lame excuse, but for her safety, he had to make her hate him.

"Oh shut up Jacob Hill or I'll punch that stupid mouth of yours," she growled. There was no possible way that Delilah Mason would ever hurt anyone physically. Jacob chuckled. Was this his Delilah? Or had she been abducted by some aliens?

"God, you're impossible," she snarled through gritted teeth and slapped his arm in frustration.

"And, you aren't?" laughed Jacob pulling her back into his arms. She sighed.

"Jake was that you or the monster talking?" she asked.

"Me I guess, but Delilah even you must know that I'm right this time."
