Forgiveness

Summary: After Infinity war, Steve and Tony are reunited and makeup from their previous feud in Civil War. (Also, Steve and Tony were married before civil war, and never got "officially" Divorced)

At the compound:

Steve played with his wedding ring on his left hand as he stared at the monitor in front of him. 

"MISSING" Those red words popped out to him on the screen. The number of dusted people counted kept rising after Thanos snapped his fingers. They were almost at half the population of the entire Earth. It made Steve upset seeing the MISSING sign on the monitor because he knew they weren't missing, he knew where the people were, you could physically see their ashes floating in the air and on the ground. There were over 3 billion people missing on Earth, but Steve only truly cared about one of them, Tony.

 After the Civil war between the Avengers subsided, Steve started to feel guilty. He knew Tony wasn't trying to hurt him or the team, but Bucky meant so much to him, and he couldn't just leave his best friend behind. But he later realized that that was exactly what he did, he left his BESTEST FRIEND, his husband behind. ever since then, he never attempted to make contact with Tony, because he was afraid he wouldn't want him back. And now he may be somewhere lost out in the middle of space, or maybe Tony got dusted too.

Later that day:

Steve, the remaining Avengers, and the new "recruit" Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel were having a meeting at the original Avengers tower in New York when suddenly a monitor pulled up an alert about something entering the atmosphere, and it was landing near the baseball arena. They were all deathly terrified that it was Thanos, coming back to cause more destruction, so they rushed as fast as they could and they arrived just as it was landing. None of them bothered to get their gear since they were in such a hurry, and nobody knew if it was a serious threat or not. The ship landed, and Rocket spoke up.

"Hey...That's........That's the Benatar, that's my ship! That's the Guardians ship!" They all looked to it in hope, maybe more heroes survived than they thought. Steve kept chanting in his head over and over again: "Please be Tony, please be Tony, Please be Tony," 

The ship landed and the door opened. Steam rolled out, and Nebula was standing in the doorway. Steve's heart dropped for a second, but then a very exhausted and dirty looking Tony appeared. Tony looked to him and smiled slightly before Rhodey ran up to him and hugged him. 

"Miss me?"

"Tony! You dipshit! You're okay, why didn't you contact us?"

"How exactly do think I could have done that?" Tony asked. 

"Fair point."

"Is this everyone that's left? This is it?" Tony asked. Natasha nodded "sadly."

"Let's get you guys back to the compound, you don't look too great Tones, and....do you even need to eat?" Bruce asked Nebula.

"Yes I do, would you happen to grow Yaro Root on this planet?" Nebula asked

"Friend Rabbit here is growing a garden of them at the compound, they are nice and ripe!" Thor replied. Nebula grinned slightly at Thor's nickname for rocket. During the entire conversation, Steve stared at and analyzed Tony. He looked so tired and weak and..... broken. After Clint started whining about getting tired of standing around, everyone boarded onto the Benetar and they flew downstate to the compound (Carol just flew there because she's extra).

Later that day:

After they arrived at the compound, everyone decided that they wanted to have a team dinner and they went their separate ways to rest until then.  Tony went with Bruce to get a checkup in his lab.

"Well, you're super dehydrated and starved, you might want to take a few extra vitamins over the next few weeks to get more nutrients into your system again. You also need LOTS of sleep. Anyways, what happened, and where were you when everything went down? I'm assuming there was a reason for you going into space."

"I'll tell everyone about that at dinner, but for now I just want to go shower," Tony replied

"That sounds like a good idea," Bruce said as he put his doctor stuff away. Bruce left the lab as   Tony was putting his broken nano ironman helmet away. Steve was patiently waiting outside of Tony's lab, this was his chance, his husband is back and safe. Steve was so ready to talk to him, it had only been about 2 years since the fight, but that felt longer than the 70 years he spent in ice. And now that Bucky was gone, Tony was the only person he felt like he could talk to.  Steve was also terrified at the same time. What if Tony doesn't forgive him? What if he hates him? As Steve was going through all of this in his mind, Tony noticed him standing outside of the lab.

"Steve, are you alright? Do you need something?" Tony asked in a tired voice. Steve snapped out of his thought and stood into the doorway.

"Can..... can I come in? Can.... we talk?" Steve asked nervously. Tony smiled slightly.

"Of course you can come in Steve, what is it that you want to about?" Tony asked. Steve didn't respond, but instead, he walked up to Tony with his head down, then he got onto his knees and hugged Tony's waist.

"Tony, I am SO sorry," Steve said as tears started to fall from his face. Tony lifted Steve's chin and looked into his perfect blue eyes. They sat in silence like that for a few seconds before Tony spoke.

"It's okay, Steve, I forgave you a long time ago, I just want my husband back," Tony replied. Steve smiled at him, and then stood up to give him an actual hug. They pulled apart slightly, still holding hands. Tony looked into Steve's eyes with worry.

"Steve, what are we going to do?" Tony asked.

"I lost him, he's gone," Tony stated.

"Who's gone?" Steve asked

"Peter, the Spider-Kid.  He..... he became like a son to me Steve, and Thanos took him away from me." Tony replied.

"We'll get him back, I promise, then we can all be a family again," Steve said

"But for now-" Steve said as he picked Tony up bridal style. "We need to get ready for dinner." Steve continued as he carried Tony back to his room so they could take a shower together.

Later that night:

After they all had dinner and caught up with each other's lives and what happened before the snap, Steve and Tony went back to Tony's room to sleep. Steve fell asleep with Tony in his arms, feeling the first ounce of hope that he'd had in a while. And Tony fell asleep listening to Steve's heartbeat, and happy to be back home with his love, and happy knowing that now that they were together, Thanos wouldn't have a chance to stop them from bringing everyone back.
