Exception to the rules // Steve Rogers // (1)

~ Rescue mission ~

"Fellas" they both jumped forward to attack, I kicked my guy back knocking him off balance and jumped forward myself punching him around the jaw, before he had time to recover I threw him out the truck just seeing Steve do the same.

"What" I shrugged noticing he was staring.

"Er, Nothing" we didn't do anything until the van stooped, out the corner of the flap I could see a hydra guy with a gun, I nodded to Steve who crouched down behind his shield, I crocked down next to him so when the guy lifted the flap up he got a face full of shield.

We jumped out the truck and ran across the courtyard to where the trucks were, neither of us spoke a word knowing what the other was thinking, we ran to the other side where a tank was, we jumped up onto it and onto the roof next to it, we ran along it and went into another building. We manoeuvred the hallways seeing a door, Steve peered through it and a hydra guy came forward, as he opened the door I slammed it into his head and Steve punched him knocking him out.

We cautiously entered the room moving to make sure we didn't get seen until we came across a blue glowing cartridge thing "What is it?" I whisper asked.

"No idea" Steve whispered back picking one of the small devices up and pocketing it, oh yes what a marvellous idea, what could go wrong.

We moved again through the factory seeing a room with metal circle granting dotted around and a guard with a gun pacing the room. Steve ran forward and knocked him out right over the grating, I looked down the grating and saw soldiers held in cages. "Who are you suppose to be" one of the soldiers asked.

"I'm Captain America."

I took the keys from the guard and we jumped down into the room, there were too many cages to count all holding soldier, we quickly started to release them.

"We're looking for a Sargent James Barnes," I said.

"There's an isolation ward in the factory, but no one's ever come back from it" an English soldier replied.

We as a group moved towards the exit of the room "all right. The tree line is northwest, eighty yards past the gate. Get out fast and give 'em hell. We'll meet you guys in the clearing with anybody else we find."

"Wait" a soldier yelled "you two know what you're doin'? I mean she's a girl."

"Yeah. I've knocked out Adolf Hitler over two hundred times" Steve replied.

"Women not girl, it's nice to know your eyes work" we ran out the ran following the direction which looked like the way to isolation until we got to an abandoned hallway.

"He'll be here," Steve said nothing how worried I was.

"He better be." Ahead of us, we saw a man, one of the people working here we went to chase after him but stopped when we heard a low moaning and mumbling if words, we hesitantly stepped into the room and there James was strapped down "James" I ran forward to his side "wake up idiot. Please" Steve ripped the straps holding him down off.

"It's me. It's Steve and dotty."

"Steve, Thea" he sounded so out of it, Steve pulled him up off the chair.

"We thought you were dead," Steve said.

"I thought you were smaller" he then turned to me "what are you doing here."

"Rescue" I shrugged.

We looked around the room, there was a map with German factor markings on different parts, outside explosions could be heard, Steve wrapped James's arm around his shoulder "come on" practically dragging James we left the room.

"What happened to you?" James asked Steve.

"I joined the Army."

James unwrapped himself from Steve, I stayed close to him seeing he was still staggering "did it hurt?"

"A little" I scoffed at him, I was there, liar.

"Is it permanent?"

"So far."

"Why are you here," James asked me.

"My brother goes missing and I'm not going to go after him, do you not know me at all."

We ran back out the way we came, coming up to above the main part of the factory just as all the machinery exploded, the heart of the fire tickled my face, we turned around and went up the metal start is going higher, Steve first then Bucky then me, we saw a railing path and ran towards it. "Captain America" a German voice yelled, we stopped, on the opposite side to us were two men, one of them must be Schmidt "How exciting. I'm a great fan of your films" Steve and Schmidt walked onto the metal walkway above the exploding factor "so Dr. Erskine managed it after all" the got closer to each other "not exactly an improvement, but still impressive."

Steve punched Schmidt square in the jaw "you've got no idea."

"Haven't I?" Schmidt threw a punch at Steve but he used his shield to protect himself, I swear he dented it, Steve lowered the shield slightly to grab his gun but Schmidt punched him causing Steve to fall to the floor, as he advanced Steve quickly kicked him back, suddenly the meta, walk path separated causing the two to go back to their respective sides "no matter what lies Erskine told you, you see I was his greatest success" he peeled off the skin on his face to reveal his skull completely red.

"You don't have one of those, do you?" James asked.

"That is disgusting" I commented wrinkling my nose.

"You are deluded, Captain. You pretend to be a simple soldier, but in reality, you are just afraid to admit that we have left humanity behind" Schmidt and the man with him moved to a side door leading out "unlike you, I embrace it proudly. Without fear."

"Then how come you're running?" The pair left closing the door behind them, now we had no way out. "Come on, let's go up." We ran up more stairs to where a very unstable looking piece of metal stretched out between the two sides was. "Dotty you first" I climbed over the railing and slowly walked along the metal, I wobbled a bit but managed to stay upright the metal groaning under my feet, thankfully I made it over to the other side. Next James made his way over, him being obviously heavier than me the metal felt the pressure of his wait, it didn't help that the explosions from under us were getting more intense, he made it close to me but the make do crossing collapsed under his weight, he jumped and landed onto the railing, I pulled him over just as the bridge collapsed.

"There's gotta be a rope or something" James yelled at Steve.

"Just go. Get out of here" Steve yelled back.

"No. Not without you" I yelled, there was no way I was leaving him.

Steve lushes back the railing and moved back and took a running jump to our side.

We were alive. Steve had made the jump miraculously and along with the other soldiers and my brother and me, we got out of the factory and walked back to the camp. Heading the line up with me and James just behind Steve walked into camp, all the soldiers that had been rescued and tanks that had been stolen and several weapons we re-entered the camp, all soldiers who were already in camp lined the path cheering us as we came.

Colonel Phillips and Peggy met us, Steve saluted him "some of these men need medical attention."

Suddenly I was pulled into a hug "hey little lady."

"Ollie" I hugged him back and then released him.

"You really went into a Nazi base" he shook his head but still had a smile on his face.

"Someone had to get my brother back."

"You're late," Peggy said to me and Steve.

"Couldn't call our ride" I sheepishly said.

"Hey" Bucky yelled "let's hear it for Captain America" Steve was a hero to everyone but to no one more than me.
