"mom, please wake up. please!"

Tiah Westdown only knew tragedy and pain and defence. Her life was pretty eventful, her mother dying at 9, her father beginning to drink heavily at 10 and at 12 she began to be hit and whacked by not only her dad but some of his friends. She developed a tough skin and found solace in sex and alcohol, her starting to fuck and drink at 14.
Tiah found her mother dead in her bedroom, hanging from the ceiling, the rope tied tightly around her neck as the chair had fallen to one side.
Unbeknownst to Tiah, her mother was an untreated schizophrenic and couldn't no longer deal with the voices and lack of help so suicide seemed like a good idea. Tiah simply knew that she was gone and wasn't coming back or was "with the angels," as her father worded it for her young ears to try and understand.
It has a certain effect on a child when they find their mother's corpse hung from a lighting fixture and Tiah certainly dealt with that effect in many different and toxic ways. Her alcoholism started young and had continued into her late teens, her lazy and abusive father not being a brilliant influence on her young mind and body. She could drink until she was blue in the face and then some, often finishing multiple bottles of liquor by herself in one sitting.
Sex was a whole other issue, there's nothing wrong with having sex because you enjoy it but when the people you're having sex with are 10 years older then you and you're only 15, it becomes a problem. Tiah wanted attention, she wanted someone to tell her she was worth more then what her father made her out to be and that's when she picked up a guitar.
It's cliche to say that music saved Tiah's life but in ways it did, finding that she was talented musically made her feel purposeful. Like she had something to do and focus on other then failing school and being abused by her father.
After 4 years of playing, learning and doing a couple of solo gigs, Tiah knew it was time for her to find something more permanent. She had scraped by and graduated high school by the skin on her fingers and now needed her musical talent to be heard by more then her local bar.
It just so happened that a group of misfits and jokers needed another guitarist.
