Wilhelm continues to scream.

HARTLEY: Aaaah-gonizing? Ooh that is a good word, is you tryin' to say agonizin'?

Wilhelm still remains unresponsive to Lieutenant Hartley questions.

HARTLEY: (Agitated) Willie, is you tryin' to say agonizin?!

Wilhelm's screaming slowly subsides to a heavy sob.

HARTLEY: (Standing up) Well if you're not gonna answer I'll just do the other toe.

WILHELM: No!

HARTLEY: So you can speak! Willie, is it agonizin'?!

WILHELM: Yes!

Content, Lieutenant Hartley hastily scribbles Wilhelm's answer in his notepad.

HARTLEY: Interestin'. Good word agonizin'.

Lieutenant Hartley stands up.

HARTLEY: Now we do the other toe.

WILHELM: No!

HARTLEY: Sorry lad, I is gonna have to keep doin' this 'till you agree with the plan.

WILHELM: What plan?!

Pause.

HARTLEY: Oh. I didn't tell you the plan did I? (Shouting) Toby!

The sounds of footsteps running down a corridor are heard moments before Toby hastily bursts in.

TOBY: Sir did you- what the feck happened in here?!

HARTLEY: Toby I need you to be gettin' Willie some bandages!

TOBY: I can see that, but what fecking happened?!

HARTLEY: I assumed he weren't cooperatin'!

TOBY: Weren't cooperating with what, the brownie wrangling like?!

HARTLEY: Aye, the brownie wranglin'!

TOBY: Why weren't he cooperating with the brownie wrangling?!

HARTLEY: 'Cos I forgot to tell him 'bout the brownie wranglin'!

TOBY: You forgot to-?!

HARTLEY: Toby, I need bandages, now!

TOBY: Feck me...

Toby scurries off.

HARTLEY: Apologies Willie, I took a bit of shrapnel to the ol' noggin' in the war I did, makes me awfully forgetful.

Lieutenant Hartley sits down at his desk as Toby rushes back in, bandages in hand.

TOBY: There's a lot of blood, what did you do?!

HARTLEY: I drove a toothpick under his toe.

TOBY: Why?!

Lieutenant Hartley shrugs.

TOBY: (Inspecting the wound) Half of it's still in there!

HARTLEY: Aye, it splintered.

TOBY: I is need gonna need tweezers to get that out!

HARTLEY: Do I look like the sort of man who has the luxury of tweezers?! Wrap 'round it, stop the bleedin', nothin' more, he'll survive.
