He stared at her body. The woman he loved drenched in her own blood.

Her eyes narrowed as she stood up. "You're too late."

The Hatter woke with a start, panting heavily and drenched in sweat. Frightened he checked to make sure Alice was still there. Her chest rose and fell with each deep breath. He let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding and got up to go and get a glass of water.

His feet padded against the cold checkered floor as he made his way down the desolate hallway. Grabbing a glass from the cupboard, the Hatter, recounted his dream. It was the third one this week, and there had been countless more in the previous weeks. The Jabberwocky had taken his beloved Alice and murdered her.

He couldn't take it anymore, he had to do something. He finished his glass of water and headed to the master bathroom. He stared at himself in the mirror, there were bags under his peridot green eyes. His goldfish orange hair lay flat on his head, as it does when the Hatter is stressed. He splashed some water on his face, hoping to wake himself up. He needed to make a plan.

His study door creaked shut behind him and he sat down in his bandersnatch fur chair and took out his dodo feather quill. In front of him lay the map of Wonderland.

"Hatter I believe that you may be going mad." the striped head of a cat appeared to the left of the Hatter.

"Leave me be, Cheshire."

"But my friend, that would take all of the fun out of it." He said in that voice that makes you unsure of whether he was being serious or mocking you.

"Well if you aren't going to leave, you could at least help me."

The cat floated lazily.

"No, I would much rather annoy you."

Trying to ignore him the Hatter turned back to his map. He studied it, analyzing every small detail until he found it. Looking Glass Land, the place inhabited by the Jabberwocky.

"Thwap"

A sharp pain shot through his head and he looked up, a rocking-horse-fly had hit him over the head with its rocker. He glanced across the room and noticed that the window was open, he rushed over and closed it.

"Cheshire, why must you always leave the door open when you enter?"

The cat did a smooth spin in the air.

Everytime Cheshire entered at least one rocking-horse-fly came with him, it nearly drove him mad. Cheshire caught the fly with a paw and popped the pest into the garbage. The Hatter settled back into his chair and started to decipher the best possible route to the Jabberwocky.

Looking Glass Land was a place where the two factions of Wonderland, red and white, meet. Where the two sections met, lay a chessboard where the two kingdoms may battle in a game of chess, each kingdom used their court as their pieces.

"What might you be doing?" asked the cat.

"How could I trust you? You are such a horrible gossip!"

"True, but I assure you, you do nothing worth gossiping about."

"Hmp... well if you must know, I am planning a trip."

"In the middle of the night?"

"Well more of a quest, for lack of a better term."

"A quest, and may I ask what this quest might be for?"

"The Jabberwocky."

The cat landed on the floor, fully developed and stared solemnly at the Hatter.
