i remember it vividly. the wind flowing through her hair, her strikingly blue eyes. spring was in bloom.
there was no need for words. her smile was enough to fill the silence. the plain white dress she wore that day quickly turned varying shades of green after only a few minutes of playing in the grass, but she didn't care; neither did i. our clothes were stained with the emotions we felt.
where we played, the fragrance of flowers is unmistakable. i think of her every time i visit here. walking through this field always hurts me, then it heals me, then it hurts me, over and over again. without her smile, her laugh, the air is empty and plain, just like her old white dress once was.
i took a moment to look at the sky. it didn't reflect how i feel but how i felt. it was bright and vibrant with wispy clouds. it's mocking me! i thought. she'll never come back here. you can try to mimic that day, but she won't come back!
the dandelions are the same color. the grass is the same length. the trees cast the same shadows. i scoff. nothing is changing, so why should i? i still love her. i'm just trying to relive the moments i'll never get back.
"there's nothing wrong with this. i'm happy this way... i'm happy..." i say.
