L.M POV

Smoke laced through my fingers, tainting them with the musky tang of tabaco. The whisper of scratching in my lungs as I breathed out my drag into the cold humid night.

My patience running low as another minute slipped by in the chilling air, it's been half an hour already and my back muscles tired from leaning against the unforgiving brick wall 20 minutes ago. She said she'd be quick, after I told her visiting hours ended at midnight and I wanted to make it before they did.

11:45 pm.

Her silhouette stumbled out of the nightclubs door frame, clung to strong arms and laughing casually. My presence went unknown to the two, so I watched and waited for her to realise I was there. Like always. I always waited for her to realise it was me all along, that'd I'd been there since the start, that I'd never left.

But that wasn't the case.

Her sickeningly sweet laughter shredded my tormenting thoughts, her smile shone through me, breaching the barricades of my heart and beaming brighter than any star or galaxy.. I hated her for that.

"Yeah I'll call you tomorrow, don't forget about helping me with the furniture!" After prolonged goodbyes and painful glances, she finally turned around and took a step away. Quickly her head hung low, her expression depleting and slipping away. My eyebrows furrowed, wishing she'd let me in and explain how she really felt. What she was hiding.

I cleared my throat before she completely walked past me with her gaze locked to the floor. Her head snapped up and once her eyes caught mine, they softened and she smiled happily, brighter and brighter. "Hey, I'm sorry I didn't see you there--" her eyes drifted over our surroundings, maybe she noticed most people had left, unlike when we'd normally leave. "-- I'm sorry, have you been waiting long?" Regret painted dark shades over her eyes. Yeah, 40 minutes.. but do I care? No. Does it hurt? Yes.

"Nah, don't worry. Ready to go?" My useful grin always did well at masking my real expressions. She bought it every time. Clinging to my arm we walked to my car, I opened the door for her. She thanked me and sat inside, careful not to let her purse catch between the door.

While driving I tried my absolute hardest not to let my eyes flicker to hers when I noticed her staring at me. Her gaze was scorching my skin. "You're getting new furniture?" I tried to slice the silence that was slowly thickening between us. She took a second to readjust and answer with "Yeah, that's what Kai offered to help me with.. since you know I need a new couch" she said, trying to give a good explanation, then turned her gaze out of the window. Her eyes whizzing with the passing cars. One of them couching out smoke through the exhaust. Smoke. Cigarettes. I'd kill for one right now, shame she hates the smell... omg. "Shit, Jen can I borrow your perfume? I almost forgot that I had a cig before.. you know she hates the smell on me when I visit" I begged, I knew she spray me either way but giving the explanation helps sooth my awkwardness when asking.

She clicked her tongue and shook her head in disapproval, but pulled out the small bottle of pinkish liquid and raised it to my neck, I lifted my chin up as she waited for me to do so and she sprayed twice on my neck then once of my torso. I thanked her.

"You know I don't mind, I do it every time either way" her smirk danced across her lips playfully and I couldn't hide the small smile that slipped through the cracks in my mask.

The drive was quick, she was close to St Andrews anyway.

She unbuckled her seat belt and was about to open the door before she stopped herself and turned to me. "Thank you, again. You always drop me off yet never let me get you a drink?" With a tilted head she watched my face, maybe waiting for me to crack and slip up? I had a hunch that she knew. But I wouldn't give her the satisfaction of a confirmed rejection. In all honesty I believed I didn't deserve that.
