Lucas Adonis stared at Irene during class. He loved the way her platinum blonde hair almost had a shimmer to it under the sun peeking through the windows. He loved the way she brushed her hair back nervously when the teacher calls on her for answers. Every little thing she does catches his attention.

Whoever had found and released the video of his confession may had done him a favor. He was always too nervous to approach her and talk even though his stone-face expression doesn't change. Now without even having to say anything to her, she's now conscious of him, even looking at him more than he does of her at times.

When class ended, Lucas had the sudden urge to talk to Irene before she could leave then called out to her. She froze at the sound of his voice then reluctantly turned to face him. "I'm sorry, I'm in a rush," she awkwardly lied but Lucas ignored her then began, "About the marriage -"

"M-Marriage?!" Irene could barely repeated the word without fainting.

"Yes Curtis, I plan to seek out this love and -"

"Stop!" She interrupted him for the second time and Lucas was confused on why she looked so frantic. Was she really that happy? "We need to talk somewhere else before you get us both killed."

Lucas cocked his head to the side at her strange response but before Lucas could say anything else, Irene wrapped her hand around his wrist then pulled him away.

"We should be safe here," she whispered, checking both sides behind the small wall covering them.

     "As I was saying —"

"Look. I don't know what kind of joke this is. If it's about my brother bothering Ammon, I've tried everything to stop him so there's nothing else I could do," Irene told him.

Lucas made a confused expression at her odd assumption, "no?"

The atmosphere between them had turned into an awkward silence then Irene breathed out a sigh. "Then, do you really..." She cut herself off, looking uncomfortable. "I mean, we've never spoken to each other before other than in fourth grade when we were paired up for a group project and well, now."

"Are my feelings a joke to you?"

"That's not what I meant Lucas... I'm just confused. What I'm trying to say was, why me when there are girls much prettier? Why someone like me?"

He frowned. There are lots of reasons to be precise. Lucas isn't the type of person to care about people, he knew that himself, but Irene made him feel different. He's been looking at the same girl for 8 years of his life and his feelings had never changed. He knew she was different from other girls — snakes hidden behind all that makeup. A specific reason to why he likes her, there really wasn't, but all the small things she does attracts him. But there was one thing he was certain about that makes him so infatuated with her.

     Because she was Irene Curtis.

"Is there a reason to like someone, Irene?"

"I guess not," she sadly agreed. "I'm sorry Lucas, I'm having a hard time right now and your brothers are not making this any easier for me, so can you give me some time and space? To think on my own."

"What more is there to think about?"

Irene shook at the sudden change in his tone. It's not like he has ever spoken gently to her but he sounded different from before. He sounded almost angry. "Then you don't love me?" He reached out his right hand to tuck a stand of hair behind her ear, whispering in a husky voice.

"No, I don't," Irene deadpanned and he immediately pulled back, only managing to stare at her in shock.

"But everybody loves me?" He rebutted but that only made the wrinkle between her eyebrows to deepen.

     "That's where you're wrong."

It was a surprise to Lucas that she didn't like him back. It felt weird, different even. Every girl he's ever spoken to melted to his feet. Never in his life has he felt so...

     Humiliated.

"I think our talk has ended here, I'm sorry Lucas, you can find someone more suitable for you than me," Irene said apologetically, her eyes pleading him to let her go.

He pressed his lips together, clearly not satisfied with how it ended, but something about the way she looked at him made him speechless.

The only girl he could imagine himself standing next to was Irene. She's by far the most suitable for him. How could she say that about herself?

"Do whatever you want," Lucas gritted his teeth in frustration and defeat then stormed away from a stunned Irene.

What made him angry wasn't the fact that she rejected him, but the fact that she didn't want to be with him or even considered being with him because of who he is.

The thought that she didn't think much about him made Lucas sad.

Moreover, how could he be treated this way?

How could the Lucas Adonis be treated this way?

"Didn't I tell you that's it's not going to end well?" Ammon tapped his shoulder then whispered but Lucas didn't even bother turning around. He was too angry and the last face he wanted to see right now was Ammon's.

"Dude, we just witnessed your cold-hearted rejection," Gabriel tried to hold in his laugh but it didn't really work. "I've always thought that Curtis girl was too weird for you. Isn't this a good thing brother?"

     Lucas frowned. "She's not weird."

"You're a sad excuse of a man," Ammon shook his head disappointingly. "Sorry, I meant sad excuse of an Adonis."

Gabriel nodded in agreement. "You're the first Adonis to get their hearts broken. How tragic... "

Lucas's face remained stoic as his two brothers starting tossing insults at him. Frankly, he never cared about what they said since everything that came out of their mouths are either one, about girls or two, about themselves.

Lucas didn't exactly have any friends, let alone girls that would willingly talk to him without him making the first move.

He's never even gotten a girlfriend, much less slept with one unlike Ammon and Gabriel. He was hoping he'd save all that for Irene but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.

Just the thought of her name was enough for his face to cast a shadow upon itself.

"H-he's sulking!" Gabriel nudged Ammon then said.

     "Am not!" Lucas retorted.

"We can't just let Irene walk away after making poor baby Lucas so sad," Ammon spoke in a voice that was generally used for speaking with small children insincerely.

     Gabriel smirked mischievously.

"She's got to pay the price."
