"Phase 1: Project Asteria has been completed, Operatives. It was thankfully a success due to our heroes of the game. Phase 2: Project Calypso shall be beginning soon and I expect all of you to be prepared. It is time for us to show the world our paradise and have our name be known to history. A new dawn is rising. Meeting dismissed."

He was stoic in his seat as he watched his boss proudly stride off the stage, confident in the announcement of her plans for her new world. His mind was dulled from viruses - his newly implanted Augmented Optical Adaptors, or AOAs for short, were taking some time to get used to. In game they were much easier to control, the controls being implemented into his in game character whereas now they were actually inside his flesh and blood - machine was leeching on his nature.

He slouched back into the seat he was on, no operative standing to leave till the boss had exited the room. And even after his boss left and others had started to head to their training, the boy stayed where he was, letting his eyes fall shut as his head rolled back, his body limp and weak.

It was hard to escape his new self: even with his eyes closed the displays of his AOA still appeared within the black space. It made him feel inhuman. It made him question his humanity. But then again years of being tested in that world already made his level of humanity lower than it should be.

He was nothing but a number to them.

She was only a number to them.

He was thankful nonetheless. It had taken him a couple of tries before finally persuading the higher ups to let her go. She didn't deserve to be put through anymore trauma than he had already endured, and for that he'd take the metal to his chest in exchange for her safety in this new dawn.

His hyungs were apprehensive at first but they knew, even outside the game, he still loved her. They knew that he would sacrifice himself for her, and in order to keep her safe a payment must be made.

"Op. 097 report to Lab 1 for AOA testing."

The sun has yet to rise.
