(Thinking about it now, the green envelope attached to the green bow, on the green wrapping, covered in green stickers, should have given me a clue as to who it was from. But i shockingly didn’t get the hint.)

I unwrapped the parcel and opened the box. Skye sprinted over, her long dark hair trailing behind and enveloped me in a hug. Inside was a petite oak green box coated with velvet and inside that, a shimmery silver choker with a star, the intricate detail of a tiny flower on each point and in the centre of each blossom a miniature emerald.

I loved it, it was adorable, and it would always remind me of Skye, simply because her favourite colour was the theme to my necklace, it must have cost a fortune. “Thanks!”  A smile lit up my face. She unfastened the catch and positioned it around my neck. I must say, it looked lovely with my metallic black dress. I swiftly scanned her outfit, black ankle strap flats, a dark purple halter-neck and a necklace matching mine, except in gold with amethyst gems.

After about 40minutes, I had opened all of the prezzies and given verbal thanks. Then, it was time for the real party to start, the parental units were heading to our house, a few hundred metres away, the music was going up, and hopefully, if I was lucky, there would even be a guy to slow dance with, after all, it was my 15th birthday.

As I planned with the D.J. the first song was for me and my girls. We jumped around dancing, Skye doing her cute little dance that she does flicking her fingers around and bouncing up and down, everyone else just mimicked me with their own little adaptions.

We managed to dance through the entire song and another as well. Then the D.J’s voice boomed through the barn “Now one for all you lovebirds” Couples filled the floor the little lights giving an extremely romantic effect to the place as Hey Stephen-Taylor Swift floated through the air. I wasn’t exactly sure what to do, so I just slowly edged to the boundary of the dancers.

“May I have this dance?” All of a sudden Codie was there and his hand was on my hip. “Why not? We may as well while we can” we walked to the centre of the leisurely moving couples.

I’d liked him for a while before we got together, but now that we were, it was incredible. There was nothing I enjoyed more than being in his arms, any time. As far as I knew, I loved him. But I couldn’t help wondering if there was someone else out there.

The party went long into the night, eventually we tired and jumped into the buggies to head “home” to the guest house to rest before hitting the beach the next day. The guest house was basically all cream coloured with red curtains and black leather furniture. The eight rooms, three with double bunks helped to accommodate friends that were staying the night.

The next morning, sunlight drenched the small room Skye and I had claimed when I rose to the delightful aroma of waffles. Everyone except me, Skye Meli and my boys headed home after breakfast, the minibus wasn’t legal for more than eight, but six was comfortable with surfboards, beach-mats, chilly-bins and other extra crap.

After some preparation (makeup, hair, locating bikinis etc.) we were ready to hit the road, the sooner we left the longer we had to chill on the luscious sand.

Now, as interested in Codie I am, the west coast beaches are full of how can I put this? “Eye candy.” Codie, Justin, Lhewiz and Brette ran up and down the beach with their Frisbee, shirtless, and I didn’t mind, ohkay, so I minded Lhewiz, because he’s like my little brother, so it wasn’t specifically right for me to be checking him out. Justin was off limits ‘cause Skye claimed him term two of year nine. But hey, girls gotta look

Sometimes I wonder what the point in the beach is for me, I refuse to go in the water, but then again, it’s a good occasion to tan. The thing is Brette, doesn’t exactly understand my absolute hatred of the beach, or the pool, or any water except for the shower. So he seems to think it’s hilarious to occasionally run at me, pick me up and sprint into the edge of the aqua. However, when scared, I have a screech worse than nails on a blackboard, but I don’t think Brette was expecting it.
