The List

Before I even think about letting you in on all the drama, let me tell you what we're dealing with. The list is an annual thing that the junior guys at my school make. Every year they come up with the list of our school's top ten hottest junior girls. Somehow I had landed the fifth spot on the list, but I don't understand why. I'm a socially awkward teenage girl that studies all the time and only has one real friend. Who created this list though? It has been around for so long that no one knows. It's been around since the fifties and again has been an annual thing ever since. The longer I was on this list, the more I'd started to notice a very unsettling pattern.

Almost half the names on that list had already been crossed off, and I know that I'm officially running out of time. The first three girls on the list were killed and some say they were all just quote unquote "freak accidents", but I'd like to beg to differ. I don't believe that they were all just "freak accidents" like everyone said they were. Maybe there could actually be a curse on this list. Now that you're up to speed, I should start with the first girl on the list. She was no doubt the most popular girl in the entire school. Her name was Rio Gonzales, although she is the most popular girl in the school, she doesn't apply to the stereotype in anyway. She had a boyfriend, many friends, and was very well liked and kind to everyone.

A couple months ago there was a bunch of my classmates hanging out by the lake not too far away from the school. They were having a party and going cliff diving. Eventually it was Rio's turn to jump off the side of the cliff, diving down deep into the water. According to the town paper, when she jumped she was said to have hit her head on one of the rocks which killed her instantly. Again may I remind you, I personally think that there is something that we aren't being told. What if she got pushed instead of jumped herself? I need to find out before I become apart of this huge mess and become another "freak accident" statistic.

 I felt someone pull at my left forearm, snapping me out of my unconscious thoughts. I look up realizing it was my best friend Ryleigh "Hey is everything okay?" she asked. "I'm just worried, what if we don't figure out what's happening and who's doing this in time?". She gave me a look trying to reassure me, but it wasn't working. "Karlie come on, I know this is a major issue to you right now, but you can't let this control your life". I knew she was right but there was no way I could let something like this go. "Ryleigh, you know I can't just let this go, I've been doing so much research on this and I feel like I'm getting so close to figuring out who the killer is".

"Which is exactly why you have to come to this party tonight at Izzy's house, her parents are gone for an entire month so she decided to have a party". "Oh really? I don't know Ryleigh, what'll happen if-" Ryleigh quickly spoke up knowing what I was about to say. "Nothing is going to happen Karlie, there isn't even going to be any alcohol there". I sighed knowing there was no possible way for me to get out of this. "Alright fine, but what time is it?" "It starts at nine and goes all night, I'll come get you around eight though so we have time to find her house". Excitement started filling her voice realizing that she was coaxing me successfully to go to a party."Alright, I guess it sounds fun". I'm totally not looking forward to this.
