Perapin and Pillow-- A Love Story for the Ages

Chapter 2 - Getting Hired

Perapin walked around the counter and remarked at Pillow. His brooding cowboy hat looked even larger up close. You know what they say about big cowboy hats... 

"Alright, let's get started with the interview! First off, what kind of job are you looking for?" said Perapin.

Pillow replied, "I'd love a job where I get to work with people, meeting their needs and exceeding expectations."

I always admired someone who exceeds expectations... "Yes, that's perfect! Now, in what instances would you wash and dry your flippers? Give two examples."

"One would wash and dry their flippers before coming into work, and before and after prepping food in the kitchen."

"Good! Now let's get to the logistics of things. We have a dress code here, it's important that you follow it," said Perapin, noting that Pillow was already within the dress code boundaries and rocked it with impeccable style. "You must wear a suit and tie, no exceptions."

"That's perfect boss, this is what I wear mostly every day!" 

Pillow answered with such a smile and a glimmer in his eye that Perapin just couldn't ignore... Could this be his right-hand penguin?

Amid his distracting thoughts Perapin was reminded that he was still in an interview. "You're hired! Now let's discuss the menu. Here is the food we serve on a daily basis," said Perapin, handing Pillow a menu. "We also have a daily special, which is important to get from me in the mornings so guests know. When waiting on tables, we always let them know of our daily special. Still with me?"

"Yes," replied Pillow, beak almost breaking from his smile.

"Okay, we also have a drink menu. We serve fresh fruit juice, smoothies, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, milkshakes, water, milk, and cream soda. No fizzy drinks. Got it?"

"Yes! What if a penguin asks for something not on the menu?"

"We often get penguins in here who like to poke fun at our staff. If someone asks for a penguin pizza, politely ignore their joke and simply state that we do not have that on the menu. That goes for anything else that isn't served here."

"Alright Perapin, I'm eager to get started!"

And I'm eager to see you work, Pillow...
