I chuckled, "He's just cutting pizza. It takes a lot to mess that up,"
The two looked at each other and shrugged. Something about the way they were grinning made me uneasy.
"Okay..." I said slowly, playfully narrowing my eyes at them. "I've got just about every board game you can think of, and I dug out my old Wii."
The console was resting on the TV stand. It was more of a gray color than white due to how long it had been sitting in dust.
"'You have Mario Kart?" Larry asked from the kitchen.
"Yeah," I shouted back, turning the console on.
"We used to play it a lot before you came around," Sal said, throwing himself onto my couch.
"We never could beat Larry." Ash sat beside him before throwing her hand into the bowl of pretzels.
I grinned, sitting on the floor in front of the two as I set up the game. "I bet I could."
Sal, shook his head. "No, he's amazing. He knows all the shortcuts and cheats," He leaned against the couch. "It's kinda scary"
"I agree," Ash added, staring at the television.
Larry walked into the room, and I took this as the perfect opportunity to launch one of the remotes at him.
"Pizzas cut-." He caught the control just before it could hit his face, glaring at me after. "What's your deal?"
"I'm proving that I'm better than you. Sit." I pointed to the spot on the on the floor beside me.
He trudged over as I started the game, more than displeased he had to sit so close to me. The floor vibrated as the opening song played loudly.
"Should we turn it down?" Ashley asked.
"Nah." Larry and I replied at the same time. We both took a moment to stare harshly at each other before we began the round.
It was entertaining right out the gate. The entire track was filled with sabotage, cheering, screaming, and fits of anger from all four of us. Even near the end, when those in last place had no chance of winning, the competitiveness never died down.
Finally, the screen faded to black, all of us biting our nails in anticipation. Well, it was more of just Larry and I leaning forward with desperation on our faces. Sal and Ash weren't even paying that much attention.
As the screen lit back up, we both cheered at our ranking. We paused, taking a closer look. Why were we both happy?
FIRST: Y/N + LARRY
SECOND: MARIO
THIRD: BOWSER
We tied.
"No fucking way..." I mumbled.
"You've got to be kidding me.." Larry ran a hand through his hair.
And so, with Sally and Ash laughing, we started a new round.
And another. And another. And another.
Tied. Tied. Tied.
"Whatever!" I threw my hands in the air, "I don't care anymore! I'm getting pizza!"
Shoving myself off the floor, I stomped into the kitchen, ignoring Larry's snickering.
It was then that my eyes landed on the horrific sight. I screamed, stepping back. No way. This was not happening. Please, God, no. "LARRY!"
I bolted back into the living room, hands to my chest. My arm snapped out to point at the teen, nothing but anger in my eyes. "You!" I bellowed, "You cut the pizza into rectangles!"
