6 | Happy Valentine's Day

Start from the beginning

...

My heart skipped a beat as I neared my dorm mailbox.

The familiar cat stamp laid on the envelope and the adorable calligraphy written addressed to me was placed on a diagonal from the center of the envelope - as always.

Instantly, I ran back to my dorm room and closed the door. I raced myself to throw off my thick parka and placed my boots inside the little closet by the door. Then, I zoomed into the washroom to clean up and I stripped down to my underwear and tank top, also removing my bra because it is always so relieving.

Right when I felt super comfortable, I dived into bed and snuggled with one of my body pillows.

Don't judge me, I love cuddling with them in my sleep.

Every time I receive one of these letters, I always indulge in the heartwarming feeling of opening it up. Kind of like opening a present from a loved one. My fingers grazed the length of the letter, and once I was ready, I tore the side of the envelope and caught the paper that was just about to fall out.

This person always uses the best paper and it really adds to the fact that they actually care and put effort into these things. The card stock they always wrote on is always a baby blue, but this time, they wrote on a cute pastel pink colour.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the gesture, but a smile I failed to suppress widened from ear to ear.

The little letter read:

I know we stick with baby blue, but in honour of Valentine's Day, I wanted to spice up the colour. Do you like it?

I couldn't help but giggle at the question.

Well, today is literally the worst day ever, don't you think? On campus, I literally see people downing others' throats, clawing at each other's zippers, and basically having sex in public.

I don't understand how you can live in the dorms and not go crazy.

And it's stupid to dedicate one day for "love" - it may as well be a holiday for sex, roses, stuffed toys, and chocolate covered strawberries.

(I still really love chocolate covered strawberries though)

Of all holidays, this one is the worst one yet, and I think it's stupid to claim one day to do anything romantic.

But despite it all,

Would you still be my Valentine?

With Love,
- L.D ❤️

As much as I hated this day, my heart couldn't help but flutter at their words.

And again, you may be wondering, why do we give each other letters when we have each other's emails? Truth is, we both loved the idea of writing letters and how they kind of hold a more authentic version of the way you feel. We do send emails every now and then, but writing feels right.

And for your information, we don't have each other's social media or numbers because this person didn't want to enclose the information. But it's crazy how you can know so much of a person, yet only know the initials of their name.

Suddenly, I heard the door to the room open and my roommate squeals, "NANCY, throw some pants on, will ya?"

I scoffed, "Liking the view a little too much Jooe?"
