Matters of the heart

Chapter 9

"YAY! You're home!" Devyn squeals as she runs up to us. She hugs Corey and then me. "How was your trip?" She asks. "Good. Samii fully embarrassed herself in front of everyone and Elton got it on camera." Corey says with a laugh. "What did she do?" Devyn asks. "Which time?" Sam teases. "The big one." Corey says and all of the guys start laughing. "Seriously guys, shut up or I wont ever go on a trip with you again." I threaten. "We will show you later." Corey whispers. "I'll see you never!" I call out as I grab my suitcase and head to my car. "I'll call you later!" Colby calls out and I give him a thumbs up.

I put my top down and pull out of the parking lot, blasting music. "So did you tell her?" Sam asks, watching Colby stare at me out of the window. They are beside me on the highway. "Nah. She said she doesn't want to date right now." Colby says. "No. She said she doesn't want to date assholes." Elton corrects him. "She also said she wants to date a nice guy." Corey adds. "How would I even begin that conversation? I'm not afraid of telling her. Well maybe a little. I just don't know how to go about it." Colby sighs.

"Why don't you ask her to go do something with you. Just the two of you. That way you can tell her how you feel with out anyone around." Corey suggests. "Who are we talking about?" Devyn asks. "Can we tell her?" Corey looks at Colby and he nods. "Colby likes Samii." Corey says and Devyn gasps. "You two would be perfect together!" "She squeals a little in excitement. "You need to tell her. I know she thinks your hot. We have talked about it before." She adds. A slight blush creeps on his cheeks and he smiles.

They get home and everyone brings their things to their rooms. Elton drives home from the guys house. "Make sure you flat out tell her though. She doesn't pick up on things like this." Devyn says as she comes into the kitchen. Colby is grabbing a drink at the refrigerator. "I plan on it. I just have to figure out how to work it into the conversation or what I am going to say." He says.

It's been a few months since the trip with the guys. I have been working on some music and even recorded some covers to upload onto YouTube. "You ready yet?" Colby calls from the living room. "Yeah! One second!" I click upload and it starts uploading. It's my first cover. I decided on Somo's version of Buy You a Drank. I shut my office light off grab my purse and phone and meet Colby out in the living room. "Ready?" He asks, standing up. "Yeah, sorry. I was uploading a special video to youtube." I explain and he nods to show he understands.

"I figured we could go pick up something for lunch and go for a hike. Do something adventurous." He says and I smile with a nod. "I love hanging out with you so I am down for what ever." I say as he head out to his car. We get to the store and pick out what we want for lunch, grab drinks and head out. We arrive at an area that has trails all over. "Which way?" Colby asks. "Flip a coin. "Heads we take the left trail, tails we take the right one." I say with a smile and he nods. He pulls a penny out of his pocket and flips it. It lands on heads so we go down the left trail.

We stop in a clearing and sit in the middle of it to eat. "I love doing things like this. I love going out for drives and flipping a coin to determine where to go. I love getting lost. As long as I'm not the one driving." I say with a laugh. "I love doing stuff like this too." Colby says. "I have a secret spot that I go to when I need space away from everything. It's similar to this." I say and he nods. "Maybe I can show you sometime. But it has to be a secret." I say and he nods with a smile. "So we need to talk." Colby says, turning to face me fully. "Uh-Oh. What did I do?" I ask.

"Absolutely nothing." He says, sipping his water. "I'm not sure how to say this so I am just going to be blunt." He says and my stomach starts to form knots. This could end so badly. He is going to end our friendship or give me some other bad news. "I've been feeling this way for awhile now. I like you, a lot. I have always been attracted to you." He says, looking down at his hands. That is so not what I thought he was going to say. I am surprised and shocked to be honest. "Really?" I ask and he nods.
