One by one, the street lamps switched off down the little street. Over the horizon a bright orange glow began rising. The bright moon started disappearing and the stars fading away.
The sun beamed down through the window and the light bounced of all the walls. Charlotte stirred. She rolled onto her stomach and stretched. It was her 16th birthday today. She got up and made her way downstairs, standing where the floorboards wouldn't creak. Her mother was sitting in the kitchen reading the newspaper. The front page read 'Plane Crash off the coast of Newport: 57 killed'. Her mother looked up.
'Good morning and happy birthday dear!' She exclaimed. 'Your present is in the garage!' She grinned. Charlotte made her way out the backdoor and stood at the garage. Her mother stood at the backdoor way, joined by Jasmine, Charlottes younger sister, who was very excited and bubbly.
Charlotte turned to her mum.
'Go on' her mother said 'We don't have all day!' Charlotte turned and grabbed the handle. A weak little bark sounded. Charlotte smiled and yanked the door open. A little brown spaniel came bouncing up to her. Charlotte picked it up and hugged it tight and then proceeded to hug her mum.
'THANKYOU!' Squealed Charlotte as she held her mum, sister and puppy, close.
