I should have known better than to fall in love with Jake Weston.

But I was young. Naïve. Desperate to believe in fairytales.

Now, standing in my father's office with a gun pointed at my head, I realized how foolish I'd been.

"Tell me his name, May," my father growled, his voice deadly calm.

My hands trembled as I clutched my stomach, shielding the tiny life growing inside me. My mother stood frozen, her face pale with fear, but she didn't dare interfere.

"I won't ask again," my father said. "Who got you pregnant?"

Silence stretched between us, thick and suffocating.

If I spoke, Jake would die.

If I didn't...
