In light of all that had happened in the past year, Kaycee Daniels shouldn't have been surprised to find out life had given her another hurdle to overcome. Seven years with the company she had started at in high school, she had worked her way up from a grunt worker of 70 hour weeks for no more than peanuts to the manager of 4 hotels making a salary that kept the bills paid. She went from dream career to jobless all in one day. The sale of the company had been kept quiet and she had just found out the hotel chain had being sold and closed for renovations until further notice but with the plans that had been talked about in her presence who knew when that would be.
Sure she had her savings from the past two years but there would be no more income to help that along no insurance which she needed just as badly as she need income if not more so and no more doing what she was good at. As unbelievable as it sounded work was her way of relaxing while doing what came naturlly to her there was no past due notices or mounting medical bills or drug addled younger siblings. Work was just a peaceful routine and a well oiled machine. If a problem arose she had address before she even got on the property.
As much as Kaycee didn't feel up to a visit with her grandma today, she knew if she didn't her grandmother would know something was up, in her words a miss.
So being the good granddaughter and responsible person her grandparents had raised she pulled her SUV into the Setting Sun retirement facility and made her way to her grandmothers shared condo.
As retirement homes went, Setting Sun was top of the line and she only had to pay half of the full rent and board her now inactive insurance had been paying the rest. Next month she would be responsible for the entire $11,341.39 of the bill plus all the medications and doctor visits her grandmother required. She would worry about that and do the math and budgeting when she got home for now it was time to put a smile on and have a nice visit.
"You seem preoccupied Kaycee. Is it something at work?" Grandma Daniels asked
"Just a little snag grandma and nothing to worry about." Casey replied with a smile.
"Well if you ever need to talk about it you know I'm always an open ear" grandma said
And that she had been all of Kaycee's life. From the time she could remember until now, her grandmother had always been there for her. When she scraped her knee as the child it was grandma who kissed it and made it better. When she got her first broken heart grandma was the one who shoulder she cried on and when she made with the decision not to go to college and advance on her career in the hotel grandma was supportive. Ups and downs, highs and lows, grandma was there.
Once Kaycee was home that night she pulled out her budget planner and proceeded to try to find a way to stretch for bigger savings but after a few hours and some painful paying of bills, she had figured her savings would only last at the most 8 months and that was cutting everything that was not absolutely necessary out. Cable, Internet, magazine subscriptions, even her morning coffee and newspaper.
She had to find a job... now. She closed her planner and opened her laptop, even with her experience and knowledge, finding a job wouldn't be easy without a college backing. But the search was on after forwarding her resume to a couple of promising looking ads she came across one entitled:
hotel manager needed excellent pay and benefits.
A little weary of something so direct and obscure she open the ad.
Needing a hotel manager ASAP wages negotiable excellent benefits stop by our office to apply interviews to follow application
Listed an hour ago Kaycee glanced at the on screen clock it was after 4 in the morning she thought about the bleak nature of the post no requirements listed no job duties nothing but three short lines a hotel name and address with a number at the bottom of the ad.
