*(Y/N) POV* (Age : Old enough to be in 8th grade. Late April)
I sighed as I shuffled my folders into my dirty old backpack in a hurry to beat the bell, until Mrs. Freya walked up with an inch or two thick folder. Worry etched across her usually kind or emotionless face. "Y/N? Can I ask a favor?" She asked quietly. I nodded and followed her out of the room. "Yes ma'am?" I replied.
She let out a deep sigh. "I need you to run this to Eddie's and give it to him. He hasn't been here for 2 weeks and no one is answering the phone. I'm greatly worried for him." She let out in one breath. I nodded and hesitantly accepted the folder that held the responsibility I was to deliver.
Mrs. Freya was a tall woman at 5'11 in her early 30's. Usually her brown eyes were full of life and joy, but they were now clouded with worry and concern. Her long thick black hair was almost always in a thick tight bun on the back of her head but now hung loosely around her shoulder and upper back. Her glasses that once sat perched on the bridge of her nose now sat folded, hanging from her shirt. She wore bright colors but never neon and her favorite color was orange.
I studied the folder for a moment with the words 'Eddie Gluskin' written in sharpy across the front. I nodded and gave a fake smile. "Yeah sure! I'll come back tomorrow and tell you if he got it." I replied stepping into the classroom to grab my bag. "In return you can leave 5 minutes before the bell rings." She promised causing me to grin. She knew I hated fighting the crowd to get my bus. I quickly packed my bag and high tailed it out of there before the bell with folder in my bag.

I stepped off the bus in front of my house. It was a three story plain white house with black trim and accents. Every window had a flower bed holder in the window, morning glories hung from them. A flower bed full of Tulips, Roses, Poppies, Blue Bells, and more surrounded the house. My mom had worked so hard to keep it alive and well. Memories of Eddie and I playing nearby as she planted the seeds only 12 years ago fled to my mind causing me to grin like a fool.
~Flashback~
Eddie pushed me on the tire swing underneath our tree house. I giggled and squealed. "Weee!" My mom came out with cups and walked over. "Hey my little musketeers, who's thirsty?" she asked. Eddie smiled and held onto his wizard hat. "Abracabdad! Water for wizards!" I giggled. "I'm not a wizard! I'm a princess!" I yelled. My mom handed us our cups and grinned. "And I am the wicked witch!" She sat down with us and told us stories for hours. Until his mom came to get him.
Her usually neat hair was in a loose ponytail. Her glasses were crooked, and she walked with a limp. I watched my mom hug her as she broke down. My dad came out and helped calm her down. Eddie looked at me and walked up to his mom. "Momma? What's wrong?" He questioned as I walked over and hugged her leg. She sighed and looked at the ground. "Nothing sweetie, everything is okay." my parents took her inside and we followed. Eddie and I sat side by side looking at a picture book about animals. I could faintly hear their voices carry through my parents bedroom walls. I yawned and laid my head on his shoulder. His head rested against mine as I fell asleep.
*End Flashback.*
I walked through the door and yelled. "I'm home!" cloud clicks echoed on the hard wood floor as our three dogs came clambering down the halls. Bernie, our three year old St. Bernard, came sliding down the hall with Shadow, our six year old Newfoundland, hot on his tail. Grave, our 11 year old tan Mastiff, followed slowly behind. I grinned and knelt down to embraced them one at a time. "(Y/n), is that you?" I stood up and went upstairs to my room. "Yeah, I'm heading out to Eddie's, need anything while I'm out?" I replied. She handed me a small list of groceries to get.
I reviewed the list and went to grab the folder. "I'll be back!" I hollered. "Alright, but take a jacket! It's supposed to rain." I grabbed my (f/c) jacket as I walked past the coat rack. Although it was a bright warm day, it had begun to get windy and cool.
Light gray clouds filled the sky and blocked the sun, casting shadows on the ground. I looked up at them and pretended to race them. As I jogged, I gently kicked small pebbles and rocks. I stopped once a lizard ran across my path having realized I scared him. The usually short walk to his house felt like an hour.
I rounded the corner to their two-story house. Ivy grew up the sides of the gray house. The grass had grown shin high. His moms flower gardens around the trees had bloomed. The weeping willow tree next to their house would soon die as the limbs barely scratched the ground. The house looked quiet. Butler, their 9-year-old yellow lab laid on the porch.
I walked through the tall grass holding onto the folder. Butler's head lifted up and his tail swung. He got up from his resting spot as I walked up the steps. "Hi Butler, how you doing?" I grinned and gently ran my hand over his back. The wind blew sharply causing the willow to creek eerily. The clouds seemed to grow darker each second.
I looked at the door and gently knocked. Yelling came from inside and stomps came closer to the door. Eddie's dad opened the door, his hair ruined, his shirt was ajar and his belt hung in his hands. "What do you want?" I looked at him and held the folder out. "Mrs. Freya sent me to deliver this to Eddie." His dad snatched it from my hand and looked at it.
He snarled and threw the folder, hitting me in the chest causing me to stumble a little. "My son doesn't need this useless shit, he's smarter than this!" He barked. I sighed and picked the folder back up. "Mr. Gluskin, I understand how you feel, but Eddie deserves to know this. Mrs. Freya would not be pleased to find out her star student is being held back from learning life skills." I replied patiently.
His hands wrapped around my neck, cutting off any oxygen. I tried to cry out and fiercely kicked his gut. "I will not be told how to raise my son, by some street whore! If I ever see you around here again, I will not hesitate to kill you." I nodded as tears filled my eyes. He threw me off the porch, my back hitting the ground.
Butler jumped on him, biting his legs, growling and snarling. He kicked Butler down the stairs and threw an old rope at me. "Take that damned mutt with you!" Butler stood over me and growled. I got up after catching my breath and grabbed the rope. The front door slammed shut. I picked up the folder and used the rope as a leash. Butler let out one last growl before trotting ahead. The door opened and a bag hit me in the back causing me to stumble onto my hands and knees. "Here's his crap." I picked the bag up as I stood. His dog bed was already on the porch, so I grabbed it.
Butler walked away from the house with his head held high and his tail gently wagging. I stopped on the sidewalk in front of his house and looked back. I looked towards Eddies bedroom window. Eddie stood in the window, and he wasn't wearing a shirt. His chest looked heavily bruised and his face looked just as bad. He stood there, not waving or moving. I held up the folder and showed him that I hid it near the end of their fence, just under it, hidden in the long grass. I looked back at him and saw him slowly turn and walk away. Butler pulled his rope and led me home. His tail wagging slightly as we went.
*Time Skippie brought to you by traffic lights.*
We had finally made it home when my dad met me at the porch. Worry pooled in his eyes "(Y/n), What happened? Why is Butler here?" He asked as concern filled his words. I let Butler inside as the trio met him downstairs. Dad put his bed next to Grave's cushion. "What happened?" Dad asked once more. I sat on the bar stool, explaining what happened, as he cleaned my palms up and bandaged them.
His jaw clenched and nodded. Mom entered the room and he explained what happened. She hugged me. "Don't worry about the grocery list. Your father can go get them." I nodded and left for my room. The dogs followed me and laid on my bed while I prepared for bed. I had no homework due, and nothing else to do, so I went to bed.
