Kaito grinned as soon as he stepped in. To be honest, he was quite surprised, very actually, that the Great Detective of the East decided to work part-time at the café just two blocks away from Ekoda high school after he got his body back. The magician only learned of this when Aoko dragged him along to celebrate Saguru's birthday at this café some time ago. He had hated cafés, mostly because of the incomprehensive hype and the overrated coffee but changed his mind once he saw his favourite detective dressed in a brown striped blouse paired with an adorable pink apron. Since then, this very café became his favourite after-school crash.
As part of the school curriculum required the students to experience working, Ran had recommended Shinichi this café. Or to be more specific, she signed him up without his acknowledgement. It didn't take long for Shinichi to figure out that the cheeky Ekoda stalker guy was KID. It made perfect sense actually. KID had retired a few months ago and this stupid Ekoda magician had been a regular customer at the café for the same amount of time.
"Good evening, Sir, are you here alone?" A young waitress at the entrance greeted him.
"For now," Kaito smiled at her before strolling in. He scanned the room and grinned the moment he spotted his favourite detective by the counter who only rolled his eyes in return. Kaito chose a table facing the counter and peered dreamily at Shinichi before a senior waiter approached him. "Sir, may I kindly take your order?"
Kaito nodded in approval but pointed at Shinichi with the widest smile. "I would like him to serve me, please."
"No problem," the man agreed with a smile but it faded as soon as he turned to signal for Shinichi. The detective scowled and grabbed his notepad, aware of what the stupid magician had requested for.
"Great detective," Kaito cooed, sitting up as Shinichi approached him and snapped his fingers to crop up a rose. Shinichi snorted but reached out to accept the rose, only to hear his female co-workers squealing behind.
"What would you like to have, Sir?"
"Hmm..." Kaito flipped through the menu and lifted his head with a smirk. "I would like to have Kudo Shinichi."
Shinichi scowled coarsely but failed to hide his faint blush from the magician. "That is not an item on the menu, Sir."
"Is that so? Then I'll have you instead," Kaito said, signalling to the chair opposite him. Shinichi clicked tongue in annoyance. "I decline, I'm not allowed to slack around during work hours, Kuroba."
"But-"
"And stop coming here every week to joke around!" Shinichi jeered, glimpsing around after realizing how loud he was.
Kaito stared in affection at his embarrassed detective. "I'm not joking, I really want you. I've told you many times, right?" The magician leaned forward so that only Shinichi could hear him, "I like you."
Shinichi blushed fiercely, despite Kaito having confessed many times before, and frowned at the satisfied smile produced on the magician's face. Seriously, how is this guy so direct?
"I'm planning to make you mine so I won't stop coming here," Kaito announced, smile never leaving his face and reached out to grab Shinichi's hand but the detective stepped back.
"W-well, if you're not going to order anything then you can't stay," Shinichi said, collecting the abandoned menu.
Kaito pouted. There goes the money for his equipment for his new trick. The beverages at this café were not cheap, mind you, but paying a little more to see his detective was more than enough. Nothing comes free, right?
"Fine, I'll have a peppermint frappe with cream," Kaito decided.
"Coming right up!" Shinichi noted his order before retreating into the kitchen. Squatting in a corner, the detective took a few minutes recovering from his very visible blushing face. That idiotic thief always making him behave like a shy little girl.
