Grace was disappointed that their first real conversation was to be about business. No matter. She should never have hoped for anything more between them.
"Mr. Lancaster, I'm grateful you've gotten your father to reconsider."
Charles glanced away. "Oh. He hasn't."
"Then how...?"
He looked out the window. "I have my own ideas for the bank. I intend to prove that helping the less fortunate can be a worthwhile business practice." He turned, but avoided eye contact. "Not that you are less fortunate. I apologize."
"No need. I understand, and thank you."
Charles smiled and they sat to discuss terms.
