Interlude: Michael ran out of the school, stood, and waited for her to walk out smiling to herself. She never did. She left for real and he couldn't help thinking of their last conversation and smiling to himself, just like the girl who changed everyone's life...
Angel Dove was beautiful inside and out, compassionate, kind, and sweet. Michael fell in love with her at first sight. She was the cheerleading and volleyball captain with a soft spot for literature. Angel would always head to the library after school, exchanging her friend's party invitation for a date night with a book. And as she read, she would tuck a lock behind her ear. Laughing to herself and blushing while envisioning all the adventures, nature, and the feelings in "Jane Eyre" or any other Jane Austen book. She was the highlight of Michael's school, someone everyone wanted to be and friends with. No one suspected that one day this girl could be gone...
Angel suffered through her constant flashback memories of the death of her older sister who died by saving her life. And Michael, well, he was going through the divorce of their parents. Michael and Angel connected through their pains and fears. They started dating shortly after. Finding strength, connection, and eternal love or so they had hoped. It felt like fate was on their side until one day. The day Angel would say goodbye.
Michael was running to his football practice when Angel called him and told him to meet her in front of the nearest Starbucks cafe, where they had their first date. Michael became very suspicious of the reason she wanted to meet up, he knew that Angie never texted him during his football practice without a valid reason. So without much thought, he ran as fast as he could to 18 Green Str.
As he approached the cafe he saw Angel. Her short brown hair dancing with the wind. She looked up at him. Her blue deep eyes showing signs of misery and red from crying. Even when Angel cried, she was beautiful!
Angel ran up to Michael and hugged him with all her might, sobbing into his shoulder. Michael lifted up her chin and looked into her eyes. "What's wrong?" She lightly smiled."I have to leave. I have to get away from you, from everyone. I am a bomb that will explode... I have leukemia. I am not even going to live until tomorrow. The reason I haven't told you earlier was because of I... I was too scared to tell you. Too scared to look into your eyes and hurt you. I love you!" I kissed her hoping that if I pressed my lips into all of her and breathed into her, everything would be okay. What she told me, ripped my heart apart. Angel couldn't die. She was too angelic to die. She was perfect and why was this happening to me? Why would I need to lose her? I knew that wherever she would go everyone would love her! And if she was a real angel then, of course, she would be among her friends even up there! But I needed her here, on earth! And yet she was also scared...
Everything went in slow motion as soon as we unclasped our lips. Her doctor came out of the near parked car which I didn't even notice and took her by her hand and sat her in the car and gestured towards me. We started driving when suddenly Angel started shaking and suddenly closed her eyes and started having trouble breathing. Her doctor put on an emergency ringer on top of her car and drove as fast as she could to the hospital. She carried her out of the front seat. Angel had her eyes closed. Her perfect eyes which helped me hold on. The doctor ran up to the Emergency room, nurses and other doctors came rushing in and they all started doing weird things with her. Putting some weird things on her body, trying to wake her up. The whole world around me spun. As Angel started to fade away every passing minute, my life started ruining one by one as I imagined her leaving for good. She would keep her word. Suddenly Angel lifted up her eyes and looked at the people around her, she gave all of them a weak smile. Her gaze landed on me, she gestured towards her. I walked up and she looked at me. "Michael Brown, you are amazing. I remember when I first started developing feelings towards you. You know why I liked you?" I shook my head. " Because you were this bright person and you didn't let life bring you down. Ever. And also let me tell you: a really talented quarterback!" Even at the time of her last breath Angel sassed me a bit." Look I know what you went through. I was there. And I know that you are strong and nice and kind and so much more. I love you! When you say the eulogy at my funeral...please don't let me die in your heart, but also move one. Live a great life for me. Live so that I could live through you. Please read this when you miss me too much. Because even though I know you think you can't live one, I know you can." At that same time, her parents ran in. She smiled at them, then her attention went back to me. She placed a letter into my hand. Her parents kept on sobbing and crying she started telling them that they were wrong for crying while she was still alive and told them that she loved them. Then suddenly she pulled out scissors from the drawer next to her. She cut off her hairpiece by piece and gave it to each person in the room. " This was my pride and I want you all to keep this. I read once in "The Cottage Of Uncle Tom" about Clara who did the same when she knew she would die. I love you! God, please take me to Heaven..." With those last words, she looked up to the ceiling and let out her last sigh. Angel closed her eyes while smiling and died peacefully, her soul leaving to be with those just like her.
