Today was my first ride on Cosmet, boy was I ready. Mum drove me into Juniper hills stable. Desperately trying to catch a glimpse of my soon to be new horse. I spotted him. His dark bay coat gleaming, I hopped out of the car ran over, gave him a hug, leaped on and we flew aw-

Beep! Beep! Beep! "Ugghhh" I open my eyes and hit the alarm clock. 6:40 A.M.

I get out of bed and grudge down the stairs. Another day of riding the impossible horse. Cosmet. By now I was dreading riding him. He's bucked me of about 20 times, run me into a fence and clotheslined me on a tree. All because Mum thinks it's a "Learning experience" I mean it is i've learnt 2 things.1. Don't attempt to ride Cosmet. 2. Avoid him at all costs. I'm pretty sure Dad has only let mum keep him is because he's her favourite mares colt. It's a family thing, breed your best mare and give the foal to your kid when they turn 14 to train. Apparently it's been going on for 5 generations. As far as i'm concerned Cosmet hates me, and i'm pretty close to also hating him.

I pull on my jods and old grey jumper. It's a frosty morning. I put my paddock boots I got for my birthday and walk out to the tack shed. To my surprise my sister, Maddie is in there cleaning her tack. "Good morning Mads" I yawn. She looks up from her saddle and smiles "Another day of riding Cosmet?" Maddie asks. I nod and get his halter. Maddie was lucky, her horse, Casper was basically an angel. She was jumping him 4 months after his first ride. Here I am with Cosmet. The only cantering we've done was when he bolted because Mum's umbrella turned inside out. I turned 14 3 months ago.

I walk over to the back paddock, it's a challenge to get to over our hilly farm. I guess that's what you get when you live at the foot of the Kaimai ranges.
