the ride home was quiet.
deadly almost.

you are just getting over the headache you gave yourself earlier, you can't really accept the fact that your mother's gone.

it happened so fast- will it ever be the same?
no.
it won't.

Grandma Carol turns her head, wild rosy locks brushing the seat.
she looks toward you, and reaches out her hand, prompting you to hold it.
when you do, she turns back around, gently rubbing her thumb on the back of it.

"I love you Sweetheart, and it will get better. i promise."

you can hear the crack in her voice,
you can sense the desperation.
she's not just telling you that, she's telling herself too, that it will be alright.

"it will, Grandma Carol. i love you too."

once again the car is silent.
but.. it's more at peace. if that's even possible.

you arrive at addison apartments.
you are currently only wearing your hospital gown, you would need to go home sometime and get all of your stuff- but nows definitely not the time.

you are lead to your grandmothers apartment, room 104.

when the door is opened, your grandmothers fresh baking wafts into your nose.
there's a half drunken protein shake on the table, probably Grandma Mabel's.

everything is.. at total peace, the opposite of what the three of you have been going through needless to say.

"I will find some clothes for you, but first you should take a bath"
Grandma Mabel places a bony hand on your head, patting your dirty hair.

you nod, walking into the bathroom.

just then yuh notice how much you stink.

not just BO, but you stink of hospital.

that infectious smell you hate so much has seen to stuck to you, rotting away your skin into the meat.

you start a hot shower.

the hot water trickles down your body, calming your muscles.
scrubbing your arm, trying to scrub off that smell of death.

it's almost like it's engraved into your flesh-
you scrub harder.
and harder-
the smell of rot and decay is almost like a fungus, rooted into your body.

are you now one with death?
before you notice it, your arm is a bright red, blood spotting out of your pores.

you decide to wash your hair instead.
something much less.. painful.
you use the no name shampoo and scrub through your locks, running your hands through the tangles.

something comes out with your hand though-

you inspect whatever came out of your hair- it's grey, kind of squishy..

it's brain.

you scream, quickly throwing the little piece of brain.

"(Y/n)?!"
Both of your grandmothers burst into the room and open the curtain.

you stare up at your grandmothers, tears spilling down your face.

"t-there was brain in my hair"

the room freezes.
both of your grandmothers stare at you with wide eyes, Grandma carol speaking up.

"it was probably just dirt honey, you are still shaken up."

you know what you saw-
you know what, let's just say it was dirt.

"rinse yourself off sweetie, Mabel brought some clothes. i'll go through your hair once you put everything on, alright?"

you nod, your grandmothers leaving.

it's dark out already, due to it nearing winter.
there are many large windows in your grandmothers Rectangular apartment, having a view of the large field and treehouse out back.

your currently sitting in front of your grandmother on the couch, listening to a podcast on their radio.
Grandma carol is reading a book which you cannot see the title of, while grandma mabel brushes through your hair with a comb.
a weight on your lap prompts you to look down, a black and white dog staring right back up at you.

It's your Grandmothers blue heeler, Pepper.

he stares up at you, awaiting pets.
you can't help but giggle, running your fingers through Peppers soft fur.

"Peppers such a good boy, right Honey?"

Grandma Carol looks up from her book, -Pastries for all, you read from the cover- and smiles.

"he is, Pepper is the best of boys."
...
"not as amazing as you though.."

You giggle at your grandparents, still as in love as summer sweethearts.

"what a charmer you are, Mabel. say, (Y/n), have you heard of the story of how your grandmother and i met?"

you shake your head, Grandma Mabel starting to braid your (h/l) hair.

"it was the winter of 1943, I was 17 and leader of the cheerleading team, as well as the track team and rugby team."

to be honest you're not surprised. Grandma Mabel is probably the fittest grandma out there, you would not doubt her being able to bench press you easily.

"and your grandmother, she was president of the baking club, she dedicated her life to that club."

"i dedicated myself as much to my club as you did yours"
Grandma carol smirked, looking up from your book.

"yes.. i was very into my sports. anyway, she hosted a bake sale to help fund all of my teams to go for tournaments.
we met before one of those tournaments, and i bought a cookie and tried to win her over~"

"Mabel, you bought half of the stalk and said "are you an heaven, cause you fell from angel" and tried to run away, slipped and cracked your head open."

you chortle loudly, covering your mouth.
"some wooer you are, Grandma."

"it was romantic!"

"yes, very. anyway, i took her to the nurses and we soon found out we had much in common."

Grandma Mabel finishes your braid, patting your head.

"and with that bloomed our wonderful relationship, and soon your mother..."

the room went silent.

"so, i would think it's time for bed, don't you sweetheart?"

Grandma Carol quickly nodded her head, wiping her eyes.

"yes, it is! you should hurry up to bed sweetie, your room is the second to the left. "

Your grandmother pats your back, sending you into the room.

so, you guess this is your new room now.
you lay on the large bed, tears finally beginning to surface in your eyes.

you do really miss your mother.
