"(Y/n)."
you turn around.
it's her.

"you aren't safe here"

what does she mean?
her (H/c) hair flows freely around her, she acts as a beacon of light in the current void you inhabit

"what do you mean?"
she is crying, sobbing actually.

"i have been freed by my cage... but he won't let me have my true freedom."

you.. don't know what to say, really.

"they took my shell, before i could untie myself, please- please i just want to go home"

before you can say anything you are ripped from your mother, and thrown back into reality.

it's freezing.
your clock says it's 10:00 am, and your door is open, shining light onto your bed.

much more welcoming that the endless void you were just in.

you have been having dreams of your mother for awhile now, you don't know why your brain is like this.

are you going crazy? yeah, probably.

you step outside, the smell of pancakes wafting throughout the threshold.

there stands Grandma Carol, humming a tune you cannot quite put your finger on.

"sweetheart, your awake! i'm nearly done breakfast."

"yes, and you can drink one of my veggie smoothies."

you silently shuddered at Grandma Mabel, her smoothies are defiantly healthy.. but they taste like liquid ass.

"oh.. that sounds- wonderful?"

you laugh lightly, running your fingers through your hair.

"just sit at the table sweetie i will be done soon."

You nod at your grandma, sitting at the small round table.

a certain black and white dog trots up, putting his face on your thigh.

you pet pepper, a plate of fresh pancakes set in front of you.

"you can have as many as you want dear-"
before you can even dig in, a loud knock resonates on the door.

Grandma Mabel sets your smoothie in front of you and opens the door, a tall man dressed in a simple white button up and a pair of black dress pants stands, looking at your grandmother.

"i'm here to get the adoption papers filled out for (Y/n) (L/n). you are Mabel (L/n), i presume?"

"yes i am."

this man almost looks, stiff as he reaches to hand  her the papers.

"where is your husband?"

the room goes silent..
husband?

"oh.. haha he's currently working! how about-"

before she can grab the adoption papers, he quickly pulls them back.

"when does he get off at work?"

".. two?"

"i will be back at two, i need both of you to sign."
he turns and leaves, as quick as he came.

"pardon me grandma, but that the hell?"

"young lady!" grandma Carol lightly scolds

".. sorry."

grandma Mabel can only sigh though.

"well, i'm afriad your grandmother and i cannot adopt you, for obvious reasons. and i cannot simply adopt you myself, i would need a husband to certify."

you can only groan loudly
"that's so stupid though-"
"i know sweetie, but that's just life at the moment."

you pause..
"so, does anyone in the apartment know?"

they both laugh loudly.

"yes dearie, everyone knows. it would be impossible for them not to figure it out!"
Grandma Carol pats your head, her genuine smile lightening the mood slightly.

"i must make a call to Josie and see if i can borrow her husband."

Grandma mabel leaves the room, and Grandma carol kisses your cheek.

"eat up dearie, we have a big day ahead of us."

you stare at your green smoothie.

it probably has some kind of probiotic mold in it.

you turn your head to the plant beside you, dumping the smoothie into the soil.

"i'm sorry, plant. you will be avenged."

yet again, someone knocks on your door.
when you open, it's a fairly tall man with dyed blue hair slicked back into a bun. he has a brown moustache, and looks fairly akward. but the only thing you can think is,

what a feminine man.

"hello i'm.. Al. i'm here for Mabel?"

"hello Al, and yeah she's in her bedroom, come in though!"

the man walks in, coughing into his fist. his voice is.. also weirdly feminine.

"Allie whatever are you doing in that get-up?"

Al- or Allie? you cannot figure out which one quickly turns.

"Dad is out on a business trip so mum dressed me up- i'm Al now."

you laugh lightly, patting the poor girls shoulder.

"oh, well you fooled me!"

your grandmothers look toward you, screwing their face.

"Seriously? sweetheart that isn't even a disguise-"

yet again there's another knocking.

before Grandma Mabel can open it Allie already beat her, swinging the door open.

lo and behold- it's the social worker.

"hello are you-"

"Al! nice to meet you mr. Social Worker! it's great to see another working man in the household."
Allie is shaking his hand a little too viciously.

the social worker rips his hand out of the girls death grip, wiping it on his shirt.

"Okay mr. Al..."

there is a pause, Both of your grandmothers are frozen.

he.. he fell for it?!

"Buttwie! Al buttwipe!"

oh god-

"Okay mr.Buttwipe. i will need you two to sign these papers..."

"so.. who are you?"
the worker turns toward your other grandmother, a stern look on his face.

"oh! i'm her roommate. we have been friends for while now and recently decided to room together!"

the social worker rose a brow. he goes to speak-

"DONE!" allie yells, her voice cracking.

"okay, i will make sure to bring this in! good doing business with you two!"
the worker shakes allies hand firmly, quickly shuffling out the door.

"what the fuc-"

"Mabel! language!"
