Well hello. I'm Felix. Felix Dublin.

My entire life I've grown up more or less isolated from my dad's family. I mean, I have a mom and a dad, but half of my family lives super far away, across the world, while my mom's side ignores her existence because she had premarital sex with my dad and made me. Hooray. In fact, the only person on my mom's side I have any relationship with whatsoever is my grandfather. He never sees me, nor talks to me, but every year on my birthday and Christmas he sends me a $100 check and a store bought card in the mail. But at least he knew who I was.

I am okay with it, I mean we never have any family gatherings, but whatever. Can't miss what you've never had.

But then on my 16th birthday they decided to fuck me up even more.

I stopped having birthday parties at 14, seeing as I only had about three friends, it seemed kind of pointless. So after dinner (mom had made my favorite, tacos), they called me into the living room. I instantly knew something was wrong, they never really bother me. I had also been feeling the atmosphere of awkwardness for a couple weeks now, mom and dad eyeing each other, thinking I wouldn't notice. I couldn't really tell what they were doing it for, however, I'm pretty bad at that in general, so I left it alone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Please sit down." Mom said in a gentle voice, motioning to the couch.
But I didn't. I remained standing, just opting to repeat my question.

"What's wrong." I said, more of as a demand than a question at this point.

"Well, I don't really know how to put this so I'm just going to be blunt. Your father and I...haven't been feeling it for a while now, and, we're getting a divorce." Mom said solemnly.

I leaned up against the wall and fell down it slowly, so that I was in a fetal position. I wasn't crying, nor was I in shock, I don't really know what I'm feeling to be brutally honest. I never thought it possible. Mom got up out of the chair she was in and sat down next to me, rubbing her paw up and down my back in an attempt to soothe me.

"Honey it's going to be okay. Think of it like an adventure, I'll be here and when your father moves back to-"

"He's what?!" I yelled, taking my paws off of my face and looking at the both of them with unmeasurable levels of distain.

"If I'm not going to be much use here, then I can be of use elsewhere. We all know grandpa isn't doing well, and I need to be with him. But your mom is right, think of it as an adventure. Life is about to get a whole lot more interesting, it may be hard to see now but your family in Russia would love to get to know you better, and come on, your life here isn't perfect, but things will change. Give it a shot." Dad droned. On and on, trying to make me feel better.

"Will you just shut up!" I finally said angrily, causing them to both stop their meaningless babbling. "What is going to happen to me." I said, this time in a much softer tone.

"Because the distance from here to your dad's family in Russia is...well...immense. So you'll spend the second half of the year with him and the first half with me here."

"But...it's August." I stated, causing my dad to nod.

"We leave in 2 weeks."
