Chapter#1

S is for Secrets...School.

"And on the day, July 4th, 1776, a great nation was born..." God this was boring...

"We created a nation of freedom, liberty, and accepting arms..." Yeah you did. I can't even throw around some simple fairy magic without being bound for two months. (My parents don't exactly want their family in a white, padded room...)

"Rose Red? Are you still coherent?" My lovely and enticing best friend leaned across to me. His name was Florian. However, if you called him that, him and his little football goonies would have a talking to with you. And by talking I don't just mean talking.

I called him Florian a lot though.

I wouldn't say I liked him, but maybe I did enjoy the constant attention, especially ever since ninth grade when all the girls wanted to be his girlfriend. We did grow up together... it was when things were slightly simpler...

"Rose?" His wide smile, and glowing eyes now were level with my lips. I teasingly pecked his forehead and then whispered to him.

"You wish Flo." His arm wound around the back of the empty chair to his right.

"Someday Finnigan, someday."

Finnigan was our code. He is very much magical. In fact, he probably is about equal as status to my family. My parents constantly bug me about how our families are "written in the stars." I don't know what that means, nor do I want to know. Because last time they bugged me this much, it was to learn all my spells, "Just in case" then I was thrown into some test and I lost an eyebrow.

Yes, you heard me right. I lost a freaking eyebrow.

A sniff came from behind us. Brown hair, and a black choker filled my peripheral vision. Here we go again, jealous girls these days.

I glanced at Miss Hampshould, so she wouldn't catch me "harassing" anyone again. I only bother people who bother me first. This girl simply hated me. Purely, truly, and evilly.

Clarissa. Descendant of the most Evil Queen. Specifically, the one who tried to poison my grandmothers mother three hundred years ago. Don't worry, my prince will come. Since I'm princess and all right? (Yeah highly doubt it.)

Now, since Clarissa's great-great grandma couldn't kill mine to be the fairest. She put a curse on us fairytales instead. The descendants live on, forced into the same pattern as that generation. Melding to the times, but never fully fitting in. No matter what by the time we are age thirteen, the fairytales have met again accidentally. No matter who tries to avoid it. It always happens.

My favorite part is I get people like Florian, Cindy, Peter, and Belle. We each have our demons, our fears, our rules. But together we have our magic, our hope. That one day we could break the curse. The extra long lives ensured we would go through high school two, maybe even three times.

"Rose? What was the fortieth president of the United States?" My teacher asked me, her brown brow raised, hand on hip.

"Barack Obama." I yawned.

A steely look was earned, and I smiled back contently.

"Pay attention."

I answered the question and she still scolds me and tells me to pay attnetion. This teacher just doesn't like me, she'll do anything to get me into dentention. Do any of you feel my pain? Anyone? No? Just me? Well, okay then.

A thousand seconds later, and the shrieking bell aroused me from my thought.

I grabbed Flo's hand and sang, "Taco Day!" to him.

"Hey, wanna go to the forest tonight?" Flo asked, his caramel hair flipping around on his head.

"Sure. I haven't had fun with you guys in a while."

"It's a date."
