Ok you know how the Hogwarts letters arrive on your eleventh birthday? Mine did, oh wait, you weren't supposed to know that, forget I said anything... Well, Harry's came BEFORE that! Sure he only read it on his birthday, but still. It's supposed to come that day. I wonder if people would be first years the year they turn twelve if their birthday is like right after school starts.
