GUARD: Your majesty, there are reports of a golden carriage coming from deep within the woods!
(Enter MADAME, CHARLOTTE, GABRIELLE, and the GIRLS.)
MADAME: Your highness, what seems to be the problem?!
TOPHER: She got away!
MADAME/ CHARLOTTE/ GIRLS: She got away?!
TOPHER: I must find her! I need a carriage! You! (Points to MADAME) You have a carriage, don't you?!
MADAME: Me?! Well, yes, but-
TOPHER: We could use yours!
MADAME: But there wouldn't be enough room!
TOPHER: Then, leave one of your daughters behind!
CHARLOTTE/ GABRIELLE: Hey!
TOPHER: Every moment we waste is letting her get farther and farther away!
(TOPHER, LIONEL, GABRIELLE, MADAME, and CHARLOTTE exit. MADAME pushes CHARLOTTE back out onstage.)
CHARLOTTE: Alright, I've had it up to here! Just who does she think she is?! Are we going to let her just walk in and steal our chance?!
GIRLS: No!
CHARLOTTE: Do we have a choice?!
GIRLS: ... Not really!
CHARLOTTE: Oy.
STEPSISTERS' LAMENT
CHARLOTTE:
WHY WOULD A FELLOW WANT A GIRL LIKE HER,
A FRAIL AND FLUFFY BEAUTY?
WHY CAN'T A FELLOW EVER ONCE PREFER
A SOLID GIRL LIKE ME?
SHE'S A FROTHY LITTLE BUBBLE...
GIRL ONE:
WITH A FLIMSY KIND OF CHARM,
AND WITH VERY LITTLE TROUBLE, I COULD BREAK HER LITTLE ARM!
CHARLOTTE:
OH! OH, WHY WOULD A FELLOW WANT A GIRL LIKE HER,
SO OBVIOUSLY UNUSUAL?
WHY CAN'T A FELLOW EVER ONCE PREFER
A USUAL GIRL LIKE ME?
GIRL TWO:
HER CHEEKS ARE A PRETTY SHADE OF PINK,
CHARLOTTE:
BUT NOT ANY PINKER THAN A ROSE IS!
GIRL THREE:
HER SKIN MAY BE DELICATE AND SOFT,
CHARLOTTE:
BUT NOT ANY SOFTER THAN A DOE'S IS!
GIRL FOUR:
HER NECK IS NO WHITER THAN A SWAN'S!
GIRL ONE: SHE'S ONLY AS DAINTY AS A DAISY!
CHARLOTTE:
SHE'S ONLY AS GRACEFUL AS A BIRD,
SO WHY IS THE FELLOW GOING CRAZY?!
ALL:
OH, WHY WOULD A FELLOW WANT A GIRL LIKE HER,
A GIRL WHO'S MERELY LOVELY?!
WHY CAN'T A FELLOW EVER ONCE PREFER
