i. THE INVITATION

Start from the beginning

As Nancy went over to talk to Jonathan, Millicent looks over at Icarus. "Um, Steve, you have to invite Icarus." She says as she crossed her arms. "Blood? No, screw that, he's weird." Tommy said and Steve smacks his arm. "I owe Millie anyways, I am gonna invite him," Steve says to him.

"What if he kills us all?" Tommy asked and Millicent gives him a death glare. "Shut up." She says as the school bell then rang, so they all head to class. Icarus especially, unaware he was gonna be invited to party with Steve and his friends.

While smoking his second cigarette of the day, Icarus is flipping through his sketchbook when Steve walked up to him. "Harrington, what the fuck do you want?" He asked, not even looking up and Steve sighs. "Um, little get together tonight at my place, Millicent wanted to invite you." He says and that's when Icarus looks up, shutting his book.

"Why didn't she come to invite me then?" He asked as he puts his book away, his cigarette resting between his lips. "Because it's my place, not hers." Steve simply replies with and Icarus squints his eyes at him. "Okay, but I'm not going." He says and Steve crossed his arms, trying to seem like it didn't bother him. "Why not?" He asked casually and the long haired boy simply sighed, pushing his hair out of his way. "Because no one else even wants me there, not you or your other friends. Only Millicent, right? Not going." He says as he looks down.

Steve sighed, looking away, "okay, wanna hear it? I want you there. Millie wants you there. You should be there." He says and Icarus rolls his eyes, but he knew deep down he got some satisfaction hearing Steve Harrington, aka King Steve who doesn't know when to put down the hairspray, actually wants him there, even if he only said it because he had to be there because he owes Millie something. "I don't know. I'll think about it." He says then got into his car but he knew he didn't have to. He had nothing to do anyway. He was going.

Once he was home, Icarus did his homework quickly then headed downstairs for supper where he sat across from his mother and father next to his sister. "Icarus, how was school?" Mary Blood asked her son as she sets some vegetables onto his plate. "Fun. As always." He said as he pushed all his hair back because he knew how his mother felt about it while they were eating all together.

"Other kids still bothering you about your hair?" Matthew Blood asked as he sets down some potatoes onto his own plate. "Sometimes but it doesn't bother me, I don't really give a crap about what they say." He says as he grabs some meatloaf to put on his plate. "Great attitude, Icarus, I don't listen to others either, they call me a teacher's pet all the night just for being a good student and getting good grades so I can go to the right college." His sister, Riley says and he just looks over at her.

"Well.. it's because you are a teacher's pet. And a huge nerd." He says and she messes up his hair. "Hey! You two quit it, we're having supper." Mary says and Icarus sighs. "Can't you just give me a hair tie, mom?" He asked and Mary looks at him. "Or a hair net." Matthew said as a joke and his son fakes a laugh at that. "Oh, alright, here, I'll do it for you." Mary says, getting up and standing behind him. She pulls all his hair out of the way and puts it into her hair tie. "Ah, there's my son's beautiful face." She says, kissing his cheek and he groans.

"Mama, please," he says and she chuckled, sitting down. "Man. You look good with your hair up." Riley says and Icarus rolls his eyes. No one in their house ever questioned Icarus' actions, the way he dressed and styled his hair. Mostly because they loved him no matter how he dressed or looked. Because he'd still be Icarus Blood, their brother or son. Riley would still love him the same and so would his parents. It didn't change him.

After supper, Icarus had his third cigarette out on the front porch, another thing his parents did not support but they couldn't exactly stop it. It was his choices. "Enjoying your cigarette, Rus?" Mary says, sitting down next to him on the porch swing. "Ew, don't call me that." He says and she rolls her eyes with a small smile. "You know.. adopting you was the best thing your dad and I ever did together. As a married couple.. Other than deciding to have Riley.." She says as she looks at her son.

"Cool.. so.. why did you guys pick me?" He asked and Mary smiles at him. "Well.. we had to. We saw you sitting there, alone, separate from all the other kids and I couldn't help it. I wanted to talk to you and when the woman working there told me that you recently just became an orphan, I told your dad I wanted to adopt you and he said he wanted to as well. So, we decided to and you didn't like us at first, actually.. then you met Millie from across the street." She said then nods towards the household right across for the Addams family.

"She helped you open up.. And I've been wanting to ask, since she has a boyfriend now, you guys don't hang out as often.. is that why you're shutting everyone out again?" She says as she looks at him and he looks down at the ground. "No. I don't care about Millicent anymore. She and I are no longer friends." He says as he stood up, throwing his cigarette to the ground and stepping on it.

She sighs, picking it up and putting it into the ashtray by the door. "Okay, do you have any other plans tonight or are you staying in?" She asked and he rubs the back of his neck. "Oh, yeah.. um, I'm going out." He says and she nods.

"Where?" She asked and he looks at her. "Can I just lie and you let it be?" He says as he crossed his arms and she rolls her eyes. "You promised to be honest with us after Riley found your—" "Yes. Fine. Alright." He says in a bitter and harsh tone, not wanting her to bring up the past. "So.. where are you going?" She asked again and he sighs.

"Some little get together." He answers and immediately knew she would ask who was going to be there. "Who will be there?" There it was. He looks at her then looked away. He really wished she wasn't this overprotective but he couldn't exactly blame her after what happened two years ago.

"Mama—" "You promised to be honest. You swore to us." She says and he sighs, looking down. "Fine. Um, Millicent, her boyfriend, what's-his-face, Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington. I know, I know, I said I wasn't her friend but she apparently asked me to be there, and well.. I have to. Plus, Steve also said he wanted me there.." He says as he looks down and she crossed her arms. "Is he—" "No." He says in a curt tone and she sighs, nodding.

"Okay.." She says then looks at the car next to hers. "Just make sure you get home safely, and lock the doors when you come home." She says and he only nods in response before he takes out another cigarette. "And stop smoking." She says, taking the cigarette from his hands.

"Hey! It's my habit. I'll quit when I want."
