"It looks like we're in for some sunny skies all week," the weather man said. I sat quietly back in my seat. Some people were talking about the weather and others about their day. I was shocked that no one was talking about the Cedar Horror. Everyone back home new about it, these people act like they've never heard of anything except the obvious; their own lives.
I laid my head against the window, pulling my thoughts together. This would be the first time I saw my aunt Grace in a long time. I used to come here all the time as a boy, but my mother stopped bringing me. Why, I don't know.
The coolness of the window, made my headache lessen, and I was able to close my eyes, so the burning lights on the train stopped bothering them.
I soon had to switch from the train, to a bus, that would take me the rest of the way. Poplar Dale was a small town behind Bruce Mines. But that wasn't where I was going. There was a smaller town, at the edge of Poplar Dale, surrounded by forests, and a mountain, called Cedar Ville. Cedar Ville was where my mother grew up, before having a falling out with my "father" and left. Taking nothing but money with her.
Anyway, I was allowed to go back for a few years until I was eight. Afterword, I had come to know her boyfriend, a man who liked to use his belt for more things than wearing on his pants.
I watched as the city lights dimmed, and forests took over, casting a slight fog onto the road. The driver seemed to be unseattled, as if he knew something about this place that we didn't. The small highway coming into view of a few light from a small town in the distance.
The bus stopped, just outside the town, at a weird looking gas station, called the Shell.
"Last stop, Poplar Dale!" A man said, as everyone got off.
As I stepped off the bus, finding my luggage. Two suitcases, and a backpack, was all I owned. I turned to see the one person I wanted to see. The one person that never judged anything that came out of my mouth.
Aunt Grace.
Her golden hair fell loosely to her shoulders. Her hair wasn't quite golden but golden blond. When I got close enough to her, she gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"I am so sorry for your loss," She said sadly.
"Thanks, but I'm okay." I said and gave her a hug.
We got into her car and drove for about an hour to a very small town in Poplar Dale, called Cedar Vile.
She explained that all of the town's in Poplar Dale were all named after trees, plants and animals and sometimes two. But the thing was if the plant, tree or animal didn't live or grow in Poplar Dale, you couldn't use the name.
We soon got to aunt Grace's house. It was lined with statues of Gorgons' and Gargoyles'. Inside looked like old Italy and Paris put together.
I mean this place looks like it was built for an army. It also appeared to have been built a long time ago. It was in good shape, but it needed some work done to it.
We went up two flights of stairs before getting to the top floor. She pointed to my room at the end of the hall. The inside was huge, there was the main part of my room, then there was a second part off to the far left. It was much bigger. The main room also had a 20ft by 20ft walk in closet to the far right. And it the middle off to the wall there was my bed.
"Wow!" I said as I sat on my bed.
"So do you like it?" Aunt Grace asked.
"Are you kidding it looks amazing!" I said cheerfully
"Well I figured you could make it more your style then just Italy or Paris." She said
"This was mom's room wasn't it?" I asked
" Yes, it was." She said as she pulled out a trunk
"This is everything your mother left behind, some things are addressed to you, and others are from your father also addressed to you." Her face looked worn out like he was the one who killed my mother.
"I'll take care of her stuff I promise!"
"I know you will." She said as she left my room, closing the door behind her.
I finally brought up my three huge suitcases and started to unpack putting my stuff where it belonged. I put my clothes neatly on the shelves or hung them up. I even put all my art stuff into the little trunk in the closet. Finally I moved my bed near the window on the other side of the room. Then I moved the night stand so I could put mom's picture on it. She was backed up to a large cedar tree. Her smile always lit up my day. Suddenly I heard a voice say:
"Knock, knock!" I went to open the door but she was already in the room.
"Wow, I love what you've done with the place."
"So, you're not mad that I moved a few things?"
"What no." She said "Why would you think that?"
"Oh I'm...no reason."
"Well, I brought you some lunch." She said as she place the platter on my bed. It looked old but still shinny with flowers outlining the whole platter.
"Oh thanks, but you didn't have to do that."
"I know I just thought you would like something to eat that's all."
"Well it looks great!"
"I forget, are you allergic to anything?"
"No, but I do have a mild case of Asama."
"Oh, okay then, I guess I should leave you to your unpacking skills. Oh yes dinner is at six and we will have some company."
"Okay that's fine with me." I said as Aunt Grace left the room.
