“How long is this gonna take,” I ask, agitated. I hated this stupid outfit, these stupid ties in my hair, and these damn wobbly heels. I wanted to leave, now.
“Not long.” He flashed a grin at me, seemingly not feeling the same tension I felt. Surprising. He wasn’t the one in a puffy dress and heals, used to jeans and a loose t-shirt with sneakers.
But he was wearing a nice suit with dress shoes, and I must say, it suited him, if you’ll pardon the pun. Though I’m used to seeing him in jeans and a muscle shirt with tennis shoes, he looked pleasantly different.
This was not what I meant when i said we needed to get something done.
Oh wait, silly me. You’re probably wondering what the hell I’m talking about. Well, while the others aren’t here, I might as well tell you.
My name is Angel, and my friend here is Drago. You’ll surely here from him later. We’re morphers, shapeshifters, changers, we go my many names. The others are Emily, Mikey, John, Brittany, and Rosey. And before you ask, yes, they’re like us.
Drago and I are the oldest, at seventeen. Emily and Mike are siblings, Emily at sixteen and Mike at fourteen. John is fifteen, Brittany is fourteen, and finally, Rosey is the youngest, at eight. Her parents abandoned her after finding out about her ‘special ability’. Drago and I took her in about six years ago, when she was two, and raised her as if we were her parents. Although she can be a pain in the rear, she’s still our baby.
In case you’re wondering, yes, Drago and I are a couple. Have been for a while.
We all go out in groups. Me, Drago, and Rosey are one group. Emily and John, who are together, are another group. Mike and Brittany, who are also together (though Emily doesn’t approve), are our final group. Emily isn’t too fond of her little brother dating, but then again, the last girl he liked tried to kill us, so she doesn’t trust his judgment, although Brittany is one of our best fighters.
There are many groups of morphers, but we’re not just a group, we’re a family. Or at least, that’s how we see it, anyway.
“Why do you seem so happy? Do you not remember that we are not here for fun. We are here to take care of business, not to be having the time of our lives.” I glare at him, unaware of Rosey watching me closely, until she decides to speak up for the first time all day, making me jump.
“Angel, calm down. We’re fine. We’re trying to take care of our mission, but is it really wrong to have a little fun as well? I mean really, just look at this place. It’s freaking huge.” She smiles, her cheeks a rose pink color, hence the name Rosey.
Before I could say “It is when you’re dressed like this,” a look from Drago told me to save it. If there was one person in the world I would listen to, it was Drago. The strongest of us all, and the only one who could beat me in a sparring match, though I hate admitting it and he knows it, he is truly a force to be reckoned with.
I sigh. “Alright, fine. We’ll do it your way.” I smile at Rosey, earning a grin from Drago. Seeing me glaring at him through the corner of my eye, he chuckles.
“Come on, Angel. Let’s have a bit of fun. Maybe we’ll find a clue somewhere else.”
I couldn’t argue, even if I wanted to. With how big this place was, I wouldn’t be surprised if we did stumble across some clue. I swear it’s easy to forget how young this girl was, she could be more persuasive than most ‘adults’.
“See, was it really all that hard?” Drago grins at me, and I stick my tongue out at him childishly, grinning back. “Now, where should we go first? I wanna see the big museum on the top!” She points up at the top of the skyscraper, with a big banner advertising the newly opened museum. The height of the building made my stomach queasy.
Seeing my uneasy feeling, Drago stepped in, saving me. “How about me and you go up to the museum, and Angel can scout out a place to eat? There are so many places, I’m sure she can find a really good place.”
“Okay. I am a bit hungry.” She smiles again, making the queasiness leave instantly. I swear, that smile just has to be considered on of her special powers. She can change the mood in a room without trying, and even I can’t resist it, and I’ve been raising her since she was little. Hell, even Drago hasn’t gotten used to it.
I smile, relieved. "Sounds like a deal to me. Have fun. I'll meet you back here." I watch as they walk off, then sigh, relieved. I begin walking around, searching for a good place to eat.
