Mel's Hole

On February 21, 1997, a man named Mel Waters called into the late-night radio show called Coast to Coast AM, which mostly broadcasts paranormal stories and conspiracy theories. He spoke to Art Bell and claimed he owned land nine miles west of Ellensburg in Kittitas Country, Washington. Apparently on his property, there was a hole deeper than 80,000 feet (15 miles) that he'd attempted to measure with fishing line and a weight. The hole, now called Mel's Hole, was supposedly able to restore dead animals and had no bottom. Mel went on to explain that he'd dumped heavy equipment down into the hole, and never heard a thud despite the weight of the garbage. He also claimed that a dead dog was thrown into the pit and was seen walking around, very clearly alive, soon after. Apparently, FBI Agents claimed Mel's land and relocated his funds to Australia, attempting to cover up the magical properties of the hole.

Despite Mel making appearances in 1997, 2000, and 2002, he refused to give the exact location of the hole, which dubbed it as a rural myth. Mel only elaborated that it was near Manastash Ridge. He told another story about his return to the U.S., saying that he'd been detained by police in Tacoma, Washington, had blacked out, and had woken up in a San Fransisco alley with several teeth missing. The validity of these stories remains unknown, especially since he claimed to have eventually sold the property in the early 2000s.

The legend of Mel's Hole became even more mysterious when a local newspaper reported that no one named Mel Waters had ever existed in the area. The captivated listeners of Mel Waters tried to verify the hole's existence, but were unable to find it.

The story was put to rest until 2008, when an intertribal medicine man called "Red Elk" (Gerald R. Osborne) claimed to be familiar with Mel's Hole and knew of its paranormal properties. Red Elk explained the bizarre phenomenons that had taken place because of the pit: the hole set fire to ice, had cooked a sheep live, and implanted an unborn seal inside the dead sheep. He told reporters in 2012 that he'd visited the hole many times since 1961, where the U.S. government maintained a secret base dedicated to alien activity. However, when leading an expedition of 30+ people, Red Elk was unable to locate Mel's Hole.

Other locals reportedly said to have heard of Mel's Hole from their parents and grandparents, but were unsure if it was a myth or real.

To this day, the pit still remains a mystery. Did it ever exist, or was it just a ploy for attention? But if so, why did Mel never appear again? The circumstances are questionable. Is Mel's Hole the Mandela Effect, a broad hoax, or the truth? Unless it's miraculously discovered, this twenty-year-old legend will stay as a conspiracy theory.

My opinion:

Okay, so I didn't include everything in here, such as the other stories Mel told in his interviews on Coast to Coast. However, if you're still interested in the story, you should definitely research on it! I used a few different sources, and I know of a YouTube video that goes into greater depth. I'll link these below.

Anyway, I don't know if I fully believe, but I'd like to think it's somewhat true. It seems odd that Mel hasn't come out about it being a hoax if it really is, considering it's been in speculation for over two decades. I would really love to go search for Mel's Hole myself in the future. Even if nothing is found, I think it would be awesome and a very fun experience. I will admit that some of Mel's stories seem questionable, but anything could happen. Who are we to know if it's true or not?

So, what do you think? Is Mel's Hole real, or is it an elaborate myth? That's up for you to decide, but I highly recommending doing some more research on the subject. Not only is it interesting, but it's thrilling for conspiracy-seekers such as I! Thanks for reading, and tell me your opinion in the comments!
