He tipped the bottle back, allowing the clear liquid to slide down and burn his throat. Jaebum set the glass back down on the table as he watched the people interact with each other around him. His eyes landed on a pair sitting at a table, enjoying a meal happily together. He snickered bitterly and returned his attention to the food that sat in front of him.

You frowned while crossing your arms across your chest, staring at him in disproval. "Will you knock it off now?"

"No." Jaebum replies stubbornly, beginning to stuff his mouth to prevent himself from talking to you.

The two of you have been best friends since you were both in diapers. When Jaebum became an idol, contact had become a rare thing, but he still managed to keep your friendship going as the years passed. Eventually when his dating ban lifted he asked out a friend of yours. You warned him in the past about her history, not wanting him to get involved with someone that could possibly wreck him. They dated for a short five months before he finally called it off after finding out she'd been cheating on him the entire time. So now you sat with him at one of his favorite restaurants, him drowning himself in alcohol while you watched in pity and disgust.

Although Jaebum was your best friend, it pained you to see him like this. You lost your father alcoholism just like him. So to see Jaebum down bottle after bottle after bottle, it upset you.

"Jaebum, it's going to be one now, we should get you home," you sigh while standing up.

Jaebum narrows his eyes at you. "You can leave if you want, I'm staying here. I paid money for this food and these drinks."

"Correction, I'm the one who paid. I can care less if you finish, all I care about is getting you home safely and-" "you're giving me a headache," JB sighs.

You resist the urge to slap him. Instead, you stand with your hands on your hips as you glare down at your best friend. Eventually he looks you in the eye, only to look away again. He felt intimidated by you for some odd reason. Maybe it was liquor, or maybe it was just the fact that he could never accept the disappointing looks you constantly shot him throughout the night. He was aware of how childish he was acting, but how could he not? He found out that his girlfriend had been cheating on him since the beginning of their relationship, only using him for her own personal pleasure. Of course he would be upset about it. JB knew he was being unfair towards you, as his best friend you felt almost obligated to take care of him right after you found out about his breakup. He knew that you felt as if you were responsible for allowing this to happen, seeing as you were the one to introduce the two of them to each other. But he blamed himself.

Jaebum had been so eager to get over you, that he wanted to push his feelings onto someone else as to not hurt you. The truth was that he loved you. He has loved you since the two of you were teenagers, but he had no way of telling you without you freaking out. You were his best friend after all, how could you see him in any other light? Little did he know that you felt the exact same way. Unknowingly you allowed yourself to fall deeply for Jaebum, not realizing until it was too late and he and your friend were celebrating their one month anniversary. Now you felt nothing but guilt for not saying anything much earlier as Jaebum sat with a bottle of Soju in his hand, clumsily trying to pour it into the glass.

You sigh and round the table, grabbing the bottle from his hand and placing it on the table. You grab his arm and begin to lift him up with all your strength. Thankfully Jaebum was already wearing his jacket, otherwise you would have a hard time trying to get him into his coat so the both of you could leave. You bid the owner a goodnight, apologizing for your best friend's loudness as he protests, staggering all the while leaning almost his entire weight on you.

"Jaebum," you groan while he staggers, nearly knocking you down. You continue to drag him along to your car that was parked in the lot just outside the restaurant.

You help him into your passenger seat, making sure to buckle him in. He tries to swat your hands away in order to do it himself, but you knew better than to allow him to do it. If you did then the two of you would be sitting there for whoever knows how long. You close the door and walk around the car to climb into the driver's seat. You pull out of the parking lot and begin driving to Jaebum's apartment. The ride only lasts fifteen minutes until you pull into the parking lot. You climb out and help Jaebum.

You struggle for ten minutes, but you're finally able to reach his apartment. You help him into bed. He groans when you drop him onto the bed, his head knocking with the headboard. You snicker and apologize. Jaebum sits up and rubs his eyes tiredly. He glances around his bedroom.

"Can you grab me some sweats and a shirt?" He asks, his voice suddenly clear.

You sigh and do as he asks. You hand him his clothes and allow him to change, leaving him alone in his bedroom. You rummage through the medicine cabinet and manage to find some ibuprofen. You grab a bottled water from his fridge and then go back to his room, his door now wide open. Jaebum lies on his back, his dirty clothes thrown in the dirty laundry hamper.

"Take these." You say, handing him the pills.

Jaebum sits up. He eyes the pills carefully, taking the bottled water from your outstretched hand. He takes the pills and sighs while downing the entire bottle of water.

"I'm sorry." He suddenly confesses.

You frown. "For what?"

"For being a nuisance tonight," Jaebum rubs the back of his neck, a habit of his he would do only when nervous. "I know that I was taking advantage of your friendship by dragging you out with him and practically forcing you to sit and watch me drink."

You sigh and sit down beside Jaebum, hesitantly deciding to rest a hand on his knee. "It's fine, I completely understand. You went through a breakup and you just wanted someone to talk to."

"It's not only that, that I wanted to apologize for," he says.

Your eyebrows furrow. "What else is there left to apologize for?"

"I never told you my feelings before," he pauses. "Before I met Ji Eun, I fell in love with you. I fell in love with you far before I even became a trainee and debuted. I never told you because I was afraid of rejection, funny right? Someone like me being afraid of rejection." He chuckles at the thought. "But I hadn't realized how strong my feelings exactly were until I began dating Ji Eun. I knew I would never like her as much as I loved you."

Your heart is pounding in your chest. You stutter. "You love me?"

"Yes Y/N, I love you. I always have, and I probably always will." He admits.

Maybe it was just the beer right now that boosted his self confidence, but it felt good nonetheless to finally be able to confess his feelings for you. It was almost as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Jaebum had the smallest bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, you loved him as much as he did you. A drunken man's words are a sober man's thoughts.

"We should talk about this in the morning, when you're fully sober." You say, clearing your throat.

Jaebum watches as you stand up and turn off the light on his bedside table. He reaches out before he can even stop himself, his fingers wrapping around your wrist delicately. "Please stay." He whispers.

Your heart lurches in your chest as you turn, your eyes falling to his hand that held your wrist. His touch was soft. You looked into his warm eyes. They were afraid, afraid of rejection. Something that you would never be able to do. You shed your jacket and climb into bed with Jaebum, allowing yourself to fall asleep in his arms, even if it was only for just this one night.
