I walked down the snowy road. My Vans were getting wet from the gray, side of the road, snow slush. I put my hands in my jacket pockets, my right hand resting on my phone. I had my hood up, my black hair covering my headphones. I walked along the same path as I did everyday, 180 days a year.
It was about 2:35 PM, I was on my way home from school, the cold turning my nose pink. I live in a small town. The type that if you blinked driving through you'd miss it and be in the next one over. My knees where freezing because the holes in my black skinny jeans. I Hated the cold, New Hampshire weather almost my whole life but something changed last summer. It has almost a magical quality to it when it snows. Despite my new found appreciation for the snow the fall foliage will forever hold my heart.
My side of town has nothing but small neighborhoods and farms. Once I reach my house I drop off my school bag and head back outside. Everyday since me and my pretty much best friend Keaton met, we would walk around town and go to The Burnt Hill restaurant and have hot coco. I reached the end of my drive way and crossed the street. Conveniently Keaton lives across the street from me. He stepped outside as soon as I was across. "You ready?" I asked.
He smiled "I was born ready."
I laughed. "Come on I can hear a warm chocolatey beverage calling my name."

The restaurant had a small booth designed for two people. We both refer to it as our booth because we sit there every time we come here. My parents are friends with the owners so we get free coco. when we got there our mugs where already out on the table. Mine with whipped cream, Keaton's with marshmallows. We sat down and took off our coats.
Keaton took a sip of the mug and sighed. "Are you excited for thanksgiving break we only have one more day left of school."
I felt the warm mug returning heat back to my finger tips. "Are you kidding? I can't wait! I mean it's a holiday dedicated to food." we both laughed.
"You have to try my moms pie this year Jillian! She still wants to make up for you having to miss last years feast!"
It's funny I never noticed how Keaton's smile was slightly lop sided, the right side of his mouth tilts slightly farther up the the left. "Yeah I do I heard it's the most delicious pie ever! "
"Well duh my mom makes it." he said this very sarcastically making me laugh.
"Is it bad I just pictured your mom in like a floral apron on her own cooking show making 'Laraine's famous pumpkin pie'" we both laughed.
"No," he said. "Because I can too." this made both of us laugh even harder.
