Vin pulled into his driveway and went inside his aunt’s house. It was a nice one, on Walton Terrace. It had a big back garden, and four large bedrooms. Vin's Aunt Leda had converted one of the bedrooms into a nice study for Vin when he moved in, and redecorated one of the other rooms in deep reds and blues to be his bedroom.

Vin loved his room; it looked out towards St Matthew's church, and he could see most of the town from his window. He loved to take photographs of the sunrise behind the church.

One wall was covered with shelves, which housed Vin's large book and DVD collections. A large bed stood beside the window, and a giant black beanbag was sat in one corner, facing the television, surrounded by cushions and a blanket; Vin liked to watch his films in a nest-like space he built for himself in the corner of the room. The other wall had a large wardrobe stood against it, and a smaller dresser.

Vin quickly changed into a loose white polo shirt and jogging trousers, and pulled on his running trainers. He dumped his school bag in the study next door and went out for his usual four mile run around the town; he’d found a nice route a couple of weeks ago that led along the river which cut through the centre of the town, behind one of the large supermarkets, and past a great field where people walked their dogs.

Lena was home from work when he returned from his run. He went over and hugged her tightly in greeting, making her squeal indignantly.

"Get away from me Vinny; you're all sweaty."

Vin grinned mischievously.

His aunt was a short woman, with kind grey eyes and greying hair; he could lift her easily, and delighted in teasing her.

"How was your first day at school?"

"Hard work. I've got three lots of homework already, and a project to start researching. All my teachers seem nice though."

"Make any friends?"

"A couple. Robert Marshall and Callum Janoff. I talked to a couple more people in my classes, but haven't really gotten friendly with them yet."

"I know one of them... Callum. His name sounds familiar. Where does he live?"

"Windermere Street. I dropped him off after school."

"I think his name was mentioned in one of our investigations a while back." She said thoughtfully.

"Did he do something wrong?" Vin asked, concerned.

"No, he..." Leda paused, frowning. "I don't remember exactly. Besides, I couldn’t tell you, even if I did." He ruffled his hair affectionately.

Vin shrugged, and they started making dinner together, as they did almost every night.

Leda was a policewoman, and it was common for her to be unable to talk about the specifics of her work, although Vin often plagued her with curious questions.

After a hurried dinner and a quick shower, Vin went to start on his homework. It was almost eleven when he finally collapsed onto his bed, exhausted.
