The Beast Within

1- New partners

Mark's POV
A new semester just started and everyone knows what that means. We all get new science partners. Some people were bummed out and others have been waiting for this since they were assigned their first partner. Me, I'm kind of happy with it. I had a nice girl to work with but she didn't do any of the work. I did everything while she sat there asking non-related questions. So it was time for a change.
The teacher went around the room announcing the new pairs. Then she got to my name, "Mark, you'll be with Sean." I don't groan but I didn't smile either. I knew of Sean, I just didn't know anything about him. He isn't a quiet person either. He has his group of friends and I have mine. I've seen him with his friends and he seems like a cool dude. I look over to him and he gives me a small nod towards show he was cool with the pairing.
Once all the pairs were announced everyone picked up their things and moved to our new seats next to our new partners. "Hey Sean."
"Hey Mark, you can call me Jack. Only my teachers call me Sean. My family and friends call me Jack." Did he see me as a friend? Not that I'm against it. We could be friends, especially now that we have a reason to hang out and know more about each other.
"Ok why's that?" I asked trying to make conversation.
"I'm not completely sure. It's just a name my mom called me. Then my friends heard it and it stuck. I like it cause it doesn't seem as formal."
"That's cool." I didn't know what say so that's all I said. That's all I had to say because then our teacher began to speak again.
"Ok, now that you're all settled we shall begin. We will start off with taking notes and if there's time at the end you can talk some more."

I was at my locker getting ready to go to lunch when Wade popped up behind me scaring the shit out of me. "What the fuck Wade."
"Haha got ya. You ready for lunch." He asked me leaned my against the lockers next to me.
I slammed my locker shut and began walking with Wade next to me, "Hm I don't know that scare really made me lose my appetite." Wade just looked at me and we both bursts out laughing. "Ok yeah I'm starving." I chuckled out.
"That's what I thought." We arrived at the cafeteria and began walking to our table. On the way I spotted Jack. He saw me as well and gave me a little sup with his head. I did the same back and continued to the table.
When we got there Bob and Tyler were already there. Bob was starring at me kind of confused, "What was that about?"
"What was what about?" I asked taking my seat.
"You head nodded to Sean."
"Is that a problem?" I said slightly defensive.
"No no, that's not what Bob was trying to say," Tyler stepped in, "we were just wondering when you started talking to him."
"He's my new science partner. Who are you guys with?" I wanted the attention off of Jack.
"Me and Bob are partners." Wade said stuffing a piece of pizza into his mouth.
"And I got to be with some kid named Ethan. He seems nice but also quite."
"Cool." I didn't know what to say about that but I wanted to change the subject.

Jack's POV
"You got paired with Mark!" Felix practically screamed. It wouldn't be surprising if Mark had heard that.
"Yeah, so?" I said eating a chicken finger.
"So, he is so cool and handsome." Felix was gushing.
"Really? I didn't think he was that cool. I mean he seems pretty normal. He's not like a popular guy or on the football tea or anything thing. Why who did you get?" I asked.
"I got the weird guy that wears that mask over his face, Cry." Felix explained.
"How do you know he's weird you've never talked with him."
"I don't know, because he wears a mask."
"Well maybe he has a reason. Get to know him before you judge him." I advised Felix.
"Ok yeah. So Ethan who are you paired with?"
"I'm with Tyler. He's one of Mark's friends I think. He's taller than me and had brown curly hair."
"I think I know who you're talking about." Felix said.
For the rest of lunch we just fooled around not talking about anything real important. I figured that this semester won't be too bad.
