Oh how I love spending my afternoons at the beach, digging up some precious memories. I'm the type that enjoys being alone most of the time, since people can be really, really annoying sometimes. Summers here in California are amazing and worth waiting for all year long.

I was lying on the sand, wearing my new two piece tribal print bathing suit that I adored, and loving the relaxing sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Soon enough, the next thing I know is that I drifted into a deep sleep.

                          ***

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I swipe my screen open to find out that Cheryl, my bestie, was calling me.

"What do you want now?" I asked, a bit irritated, remembering that she had called me over five times that day.

"Well good afternoon to you too," she huffed sarcastically. "I wanted to ask you if you if you changed your mind about going to that party with me..."

"NO! How many times have I told you that it's never gonna happen?" I told her for the hundredth time that week.

You see, there was this party we both got invited to, but no way in hell was I excited any bit about attending it. I mean, I am not your party animal, not at all. That is other than the fact that the sluttiest girl in school is the one who's throwing it, though, so don't forget that.

"Phoebeeee," she whined, stressing on the 'o' and 'e' sounds in my name. "Freaking Kyle is gonna be there! Why do you like torturing me?!" She defended herself. "I mean, I know you hate partying, but I'm your bestie for god's sake! Do it for me!"

"Stupid Kyle." I muttered under my breath. I know she's my friend and all, but can't she just flirt with him somewhere else? If I remind her, though, she'd be like 'At the party, I would actually be pretty and all sparkly, so, yeah!'

"Phoebe, please." She breathed out desperately. This time I felt I was being too harsh on her.

"Why don't you take Grace?" I asked, because it's clear that she had to take someone with her, or as I prefer to say, drag someone with her to that hell of a party.

"I don't think she got invited." She shot back quickly.

I sighed.

Was I really considering going to that party now?

After a long uncomfortable silence, I finally said something.

"Hmmffph... okay fine!" I practically screamed.

I couldn't believe what i just said.

"Yay! I love you!" She replied happily. I could literally see her in front of me right now, grinning from ear to ear like an idiot.

This thing I like, about Cheryl, is that she's always so happy and bubbly. When she's feeling down, which rarely happens, I literally leave everything to comfort her.

Cheryl's quite short, although she's older than me in four months. Her hair is long, wavy, and chocolate brown.

In the end, although she annoys me all the time, I honestly couldn't ask for a better friend.

"Me too." I said. "About this party," I continued, "I don't have anyone to drop me off and pick me up."

"Euh, it's okay," she said calmly, "You're gonna come over to my house, after you finish your hair and makeup, and my brother will drive us there." She said as if it was so obvious.

"Deal. I really have to go now," I said, "Bye."

"Bye!" She replied.

I hung up and stood up on the sand, and walked home, realizing that if Cheryl hadn't called me, I would have still been asleep on the shore. The sun was almost completely gone as I walked back home, thinking about that stupid party, and about how I'm gonna get dragged to it.
