A Game of Thrones - Chapter 12

Start from the beginning

Syrio 'tched' before saying, "Just so. How can you be as quick as a snake..."

Syrio stopped as he struck a much more aware Arya, who parried his strikes and got back on her feet, keeping up with her dancing master as she usually did, "... or as quiet as a shadow..." another small clash of wooden swords led to Syrio disarming Arya and holding both blades at the girl's throat. "... when you are somewhere else?" Syrio finished his question.

Pulling both swords back and held in one hand, Syrio placed the other on Arya's shoulder as he asked, "You are fearing for your father, hmm?"

The girl silence was enough answer for Syrio as he continued, "That is right."

He then asked, "Do you pray to the gods?"

"The old and new." Arya answered in the common Westerosi practice.

With a indulgent smile, Syrio spoke confidently, "There is only one god... and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to death – 'Not Today'."

With that lesson passed on to the student, Syrio backed off and passed Arya her sword as the girl got into her stance, her heart and mind more lighter than before as she properly began her 'dancing lessons'.

<The next day, Ceremonial tent, Vaes Dothrak, The Mother of Mountains, The Dothraki Sea, Essos...>

The chanting of the Dothraki was heard throughout the tent as Daenerys Stormborn took another bite out of the heart of a horse, the high priestess of the Dothraki of Khal Drogo's Khalasar chanting above the numerous voices around her.

Drogo himself watched Daenerys quietly, waiting to see whether his wife could truly pass this test to prove that she was a worthy Khaleesi of the Dothraki and what type of child she would birth.

Her mouth and jaw bloody, Daenerys swallowed the meat down her throat before taking another bite to prove herself worthy of her new people.

Standing a bit away and not chanting like a select few others, Viserys Targaryen and Ser Jorah Mormont observed the spectacle... the former with some amount of disgust.

"She has to eat the whole heart? I hope that wasn't my horse." Viserys asked the banished knight of Westeros.

"She's doing well." Ser Jorah commented.

"She'll never keep it down." Viserys denied as Daenerys took another savage bit from the bloody heart in her grasp, keeping eye contact with her Khal throughout the entire ordeal. Khal Drogo approved with a slight smile at his new wife's fervor to prove herself.

As Daenerys continued her gruesome meal, Viserys took stock of the chanting Dothraki woman before he ordered Ser Jorah, "Tell me what she's saying."

"The Prince is riding. I have heard the thunder of his hooves. Swift as the wind he rides." Viserys could only look in horrified awe as his sister continued eating without pause.

"His enemies will cower before him... and their wives will weep tears of blood. She's going to have a boy." Ser Jorah stated, much to Viserys's own mad horror.

"He won't be a real Targaryen. He won't be a true dragon." Viserys stated in denial, although it was perfectly clear that for such a child to exist, Viserys would need to take Daenerys, and it was something the Beggar King had forsaken back in Pentos when he married her off for an army that didn't listen to him.

The last of the heart entered Daenerys's mouth as she tried to swallow... before her gag reflex acted up and caused her to nearly vomit.

The tent fell silent, all chants and prayers halted for a time as all waited to see whether Daenerys would fail like countless other Khaleesi's before her. Even Drogo had his eyes fixed on her.
