Crissa was one of my closest students in that class, the reason we were comfortable talking to each other. Her seat was near my table so it was easy for me to notice her and talk to her.
"Una na ako prof," Mahina siyang tumawa at kumaway sa akin. I just nodded in reply.
"Dancers for our folk dance presentation teachers, anyone?" Prof Estrella, the university's Culture and Arts coordinator asked as she was looking around for some volunteers. Marami naman kaming naroon kasi hindi lang professors from our department ang kasali kundi ang ibang departments din.
"We need 3 females and 3 males for the folk dance " She added. Halos lahat kami ay nagsibulongan na.
The event was called 'The Educators Night'. Every teacher should participate the said event and showcase their talents. There were many categories you could choose to. Since I was not gifted with a nice voice or skills in acting, I might join the modern dance presentation. Well, dance category includes Modern Dance, Folk Dance, Interpretative Dance and a lot more.
"We have, Astria and Dantes, Gracia and Dela Peja, and.. we need 1 female and 1 male nalang.. How about Sperbund?"
Gulat akong napatingin kay prof Estrella, hindi ineexpect na matatawag. Maamo siyang ngumiti sa akin at naghintay sa isasagot ko. "A.. ako po?" Napaturo ako sa sarili ko.
"Yes, ikaw. Would it be okay na sa Folk Dance ka nalang magjoin?"
"Uh.. Folk Dance?" Kabado kong tanong. Minsan na nga ako sumayaw, sa Folk Dance pa masasali.
"Yes, Folk Dance. Easy lang ang steps ng Tinikling."
Halos lumuwa ang mga mata ko. "Tinikling?!"
Nagsitawanan ang mga katabi ko dahil sa naging reaksyon ko.
"Oo, bagay ka sa Folk Dance na sayaw prof kasi bata ka pa. Kaya mo pang umindak-indak at umiwas-iwas sa kawayan." Sambit ng katabi kong professor, kaya yun halos silang lahat ay sumang-ayon.
"Uh.. okay po." Sa isip ko palang mukhang mahihirapan ako ngunit hindi naman pwedeng ipahalata ko sa kanila kaya pumayag nalang ako.
"So.." She scrolled through her iPad. "Your partner is.. uh.. let me see.. oh prof Ignacio. I almost forgot him." Napasapo siya sa noo.
I never heard that last name before, siguro galing siya sa ibang department.
"He's not here anyway, you'll meet him once you start your practice." She added.
"Alright prof," Sagot ko.
"Oh, and prof Astria from the college of education, you'll serve as the leader since you're the MAPEH coordinator." She said showing a kind smile and prof Astria nodded without hesitation. "Now let's move on to the modern dance?"
Hindi na ako nakinig kay prof Estrella at agad na lumapit kay prof Astria na may kausap na lalaki na propesor din, sa tingin ko siya si prof Dantes.
"Prof Astria.." Tawag ko sa kanya kaya't lumingon siya sa akin. Bata pa siya at siguro ilang taon lang ang tanda niya sa akin. "I'm prof Sperbund nice to meet you." Inilahad ko ang kamay ko at tinanggap naman niya.
"Nice to meet you prof," She smiled at me and took my hand. Napatingin ako kay prof Dantes kaya't nagpakilala na rin ako sa kanya.
"Can I get your contact details so someone can notify me if kailan ang practice natin?" Tanong ko.
