"So this really wasn't a joke" I knitted my eyebrows together as we pulled into my Aunt's driveway. The whole flight and car ride here I was expecting them to say April fools or something of that sort but that never happened.

My Dad sighed "We're sticking by our word for once sweetheart you'll thank us in the long run"

"I'm so excited Dad thank you from taking me away from my friends and school the year I'm graduating" I scoffed earning a hard glare from my mom "Oh so thankful"

"Would you cut it out Summer" She butted in as she watched the front door of the house open "Your Aunt is coming get out of the car and look happy"

Rolling my eyes I did as she said.

"I haven't see you in ages Summer you look so beautiful" She smiled tightening the strap of the baby pink robe she was wearing around her torso. Many would think my Mom and my Aunt were twins because they looked so much alike. The only difference was that my Mom had jet black straight  extensions while my Aunt let her natural 4c hair flow freely.

"Thank you Aunty" I said through my gritted teeth trying to keep my smile intact.

She pulled me into a big hug "You rememba' Davonte ya cousin right?"

I nodded as he came closer to the car to grab my bags. I wasn't in touch with most of my family in Louisiana but I did happen to follow Davonte on Instagram and we talked a few times.

"Wassup lil cuz" He pulled me into a hug as well.

"Hi" I said wanting to pull away so badly, I didn't want hugs when I was at the point of ripping my hair out in the inside.

"Go on inside Davonte will show you ta' your room while I speak to ya' parents"

I followed his lead into the small house looking over the decorations and set up. Despite its size it was nice and well furnished just not what I was accustomed to. He finally brought me into what I'm guessing is my new room for God knows how long. Looking around skeptically I watched Davonte put my bags down by the closet.

"Not whatchu used ta' huh?" He asked.

"This room is the size of my closet..my smallest one at that"

He chuckled "Ouch, we don't all live lavishly"

"I'm well aware" I mumbled.

He pretended to not hear me and changed the subject, "Anyway if you need anything or want a tour around da city let me kno'"

"Wait you don't stay here?"

He shook his head "I'm 20. I have my own place, it's just my Mama and Pops"

I twisted my lips "Are they cool.."

"Strict when they wanna be jus follow their rules and you'll be straight" He advised me while gesturing first my phone. I unlocked it and handed it to him so he was then able to add himself to my contacts. "I gotta get ta' work but das my info" He gave me my back.
