A short boy with yellow hair stretches out his arms into the early summer morning, he always knew it would be a good day when he got a free ice cream. Outside had the sweet fragrance of freshly cut grass and the sound birds chattering in the trees. The sky was blue with just a few clouds making their unhurried way toward the ocean. All in all he couldn't have asked for better weather.

As he passes by a park full of grass, he notices a girl with an umbrella. He thought she looked cute and somewhat familiar but tucked those thoughts away once a few older girls stopped in front of her. The boy couldn't quite hear what they were saying but knew what they were doing once they started to push her around. "Bullies...", he mutters as he makes his way over, dropping the ice cream in his hands and breaking into a run. One of the girls push the girl with the umbrella and she trips, her umbrella falling to the ground. Before she fell, the boy caught her in his arms.

"Leave her alone." He demanded, his eyes expressing anger.

"W-What are you going to do, banana boy?" One girl remarks toward his hair color while shooting a threatening glance at the girl in his arms.
"Good one!" Another says and they all high five.

Letting his emotional volcano begin to boil, he sets the girl down and quickly scoops up dirt, grass and rocks and throws it at the bullies. They ran away, screaming to not ruin their clothes.

"Are you hurt?" The boy asked the girl, who was still in awe. He swiped his hands together to shake the dirt off.

The girl shook her head, looking down shyly. "No, no. I'm not hurt! T-thank you for helping me! Not many people do that..." She looks back up and smiles brightly at the boy. After she said that, she began to stare blankly and her breathing slowed a little.
"Are you okay?" He waved his hands in front of her face. She flinches.
"Just a little hot..that's all.."

Len's eyes move over to the white umbrella. So that's why. He grabs it and drifts it over her head.

"Thank you...What's your name?" She asked.

"Len Kagamine. Yours?" He answers, finally noticing her synthesized voice like his.
"...Miku Hatsune." She replies.

"Your voice..." Len starts, putting his hands in his pockets. "You're a Vocaloid err- Utauloid, right?"

"Vocaloid, I'm from CryptonCenter." Miku corrects.
"...You're 01?" He questions further, hesitantly. Please...say no. I didn't want to meet you again like this.

"Nice to see you again 02!" She bounces joyfully and hugs him ever so tightly. "...I'm glad you still remember me."

flashback

"Len...It's a nice sunset. Isn't it?" The blue-haired female child said, gazing far off beyond the ocean.
"Yeah...why did you bring me here?" Len said, sitting next to her on the hill.
"I want to give you something..." She said, leaning close to him, holding out a yellow tie.
"A tie...?" Len tilted his head questioningly, taking it from her hands. He liked the yellow color, it matched his hair nicely and it went well with most of the clothes he wore.
"Promise you'll have with you, everyday?" The girl said, putting both hands on his shoulders.
"I promise! Everyday." He put his hands on her shoulder. Miku giggles and they let go of each other and turn to the beautiful sunset for awhile, staring at the sky of fire. They watched half of the orange ball rest on the distant water.

"I challenge you to a staring contest! If you win I'll tell you something important!" She said, turning to him again, giving a small curled grin.
"Fine! If I lose...I'll have to jump in the water!" Len exclaimed.

"Ready...Set...Go!"

The two children stared at each other, intently. Neither of them seemed to let up until Len started desperately making funny faces and she couldn't help but close her eyes and laugh.
"I win!" Len exclaimed as he listened to her melodic laughs. He was happy to finally have won against her.
"You cheated buuuut..okay fine you win...I'll tell you." She hummed, ready to carry out the important news that was sitting on her chest.
Len looked excited however Miku's face didn't seem to emit a positive feeling. Something was wrong. Miku never usually loses and Len seemed to win easily.
"Len...I'm moving away from VocaloidCentral." The girl said. "My parents are leaving to the U.S.A. so I have to go live with Granny, far from this city."
Len's face darkened. He didn't want to accept those words.

"...I take it back! I lose and you win! I have to jump in the water!" He ran down the hill to the beach's shore and leapt in the water, while the girl followed behind, sitting on the hot sands.

"Len...I'm moving either way...I only said I'd tell you." Her smile went dull as she stared at the soaking wet boy.

"But...you're my best friend...Don't leave...! Please!" Len ran and grabbed her arm, shaking her.

"I don't have a choice! I don't want to go! I don't want to leave you..." Tears stream from her eyes down to her cheek. She quickly embraces Len, sharing her final hug with him for awhile. From her beating heart to his, she gives all the love she can.

The girl heard someone calling her name from faraway, along, she noticed Rin running towards them in the distance.

"...Remember me with a smile, please. Goodbye, Len..." She presses her lips to his cheek.

As the girl left, Len and Rin called her name loudly from the beach, saying goodbye.

flashback end

"I missed you too, 01." Miku smiles, mimicking Len's voice.
"...Cut it out." Len rolled his eyes, lightly hitting her head. After all this time, how could she just reappear?
"Ow. Len, still mean as always.." She winces, rubbing her blue head though it was a quick recover.

The two of them move to sit on a park bench nearby to chat a little longer. As the sun sets, they conversate between each other.

"Well, I'll see you at school tomorrow. Assuming...You go to Sunset's Peak, right?" She asks, nervously, hoping not to separate. She would hate to "Tomorrow is our first day."

"Yeah. See you then." Len nods, almost forgetting today was the end of his summer. She smiles in relief.

Miku walks away, waving goodbye. Len, then decides to head to his home.

In his own bed, he stares at the ceiling. Did I really just meet my best friend again by coincidence? He remembers her gorgeous blue hair and gentle blue eyes as they were back then.
