Time. An interesting phenomenon. Ask a scientist and they'll tell you that each minute is always the same length. Ask a student and they'll tell you that in a boring lesson the minutes will drag, and drraagg, and drraaagg.
That's exactly how Zach felt in the middle of history. The only reason he had taken the class was because of Connor. Zach glanced over and seen Connor furiously scribbling on a piece of paper. Probably taking notes. Which was what Zach should be doing. But it wasn't his fault he couldn't concentrate.
A) The room was too hot. The fan that Mr. Dobbigan had on did nothing to cool the room or any of the 26 students in it.
B) Connor was sitting 2 seats away from him, which was way closer then Zach could take. His hands had broken into a sweat that had nothing to do with the heat.
The girl sitting beside him elbowed Zach in the ribs.
"Hey lover boy, control yourself and take down some notes or at least pretend to. You look like a lost dog" said Thea. Zach looked over at his best friend.
"S'okay" he said with a grin "I can just copy yours"
Thea rolled her eyes and resumed taking notes.
"Mr. Wrench, can you tell me what the answer to C is?" Said Mr. Dobbigan, snapping Zach put of the daydream he was having about going to the school dance with a certain someone.
Zach stared blankly at his teacher.
Mr. Dobbigan sighed. "I didn't think so"
Someone snickered, making Zach flush bright red. He hurriedly bent over his copy and quickly jotted down some notes, missing Connor's glance completely.
What felt like an eternity later, the bell rang, flooding Zach's body with relief. History was the last class of the day, and he didn't have too much homework.
Zach began packing his things up. Thea stood up beside him and joined the flood of bodies eating towards the door. Zach looked up and realised that the whole class had cleared out, apart from him and Connor.
Zach heard footsteps approaching his desk, and looked up only to find Connor smiling down at him.
"Hey", Connor said and this simple word got Zach's heart racing, "are you coming to the game?"
Connor was referring to the hurling game on Friday. Their school was playing in the final against Rathmoore nternational.
"Of course" replied Zach. He was the head of the student committee and therefore had to attend school matches.
"Yeah, but you'd come anyways right?"
Connor and Zach had been childhood friends, and while they were in different peer groups they maintained a close enough bond. Close enough, for crushing on each other.
"Probably. I kinda like hurling"
In fact, Zach loved hurling. He was on the Kildare development squad and he trained with his sister everyday. But as Connor was on the team, Zach was afraid he'd embarrass himself so he didn't join. So instead he just went to every game.
"Oh, cool. Um, see you tomorrow then"
Connor waited for an awkward second, before walking out of the class.
Zach sighed to himself and then gathered up his stuff.
Thea was waiting for him at his locker.
"Hey bitch" Thea greeted him," mom was wondering if you needed a lift home?"
"Nah I'm good, but thanks for the offer, whore"
"K, but don't say I didn't ask". With that she turned on her heel and headed towards the door.
"I don't ride with sluts!" Zach shouted playfully after her. In response she just raised her middle finger.
Zach chuckled to himself as he walked outside. He took out his phone and started texting his Mom.
Zach:
Hey where are you?
Mom:
Oh sorry honey, I'm too busy to collect you. Can you walk?
Zach turned off his phone with a sigh. It was a long walk home.
Sorry that this chapter is kinda boring. It's just the set-up. Read on to the next chapter. I promise it will be more interesting. Thanks for reading!

Fantasi"I sense a power in you that I hasn't been seen in millenia. You, my boy, will do great things" Zach was just an ordinary boy. Well not really. His parents didn't have time for him and he was bisexual. So not too ordinary. But ordinary or not, he'll...
